Is the Z your daily driver?
The Z used to be my daily driver until I got my first ticket in it. It seems to be away from home a lot since my sponsors work on getting it exposure or it is being worked on in one way or another

+1 learn to double-clutch on the downshift.
But if you're throwing it into 1st for stop and go (i.e. sequential stop signs) then just come to a complete stop. Never jam the shifter into a gear... if you are shifting correctly you barely need any force at all.

Ideas? Should I have the dealership look at it?
My car has ~3800 miles on it btw

As for gear grind. I am not sure that what posters here are calling gear grind is truly gear grind. The Z transmission does "clink" especially from first to second. You NEVER want to hear the sound of gear grind. It is loud and horrible.
