Just got my car dynoed..

194kw (260hp) at 6150 rpm.
I do not know what brand that dyno really is.. it is a popular one in new zealand though.
it might be a bit off from dyno machines in usa but i do not think it will have too much of difference as it is sae corrected value. it was around 270hp before correction.
And running on 98 octane pump gas.

we have 91/96/98 from local pumps.. I am running on 98 only because I wanted to feed my car the best fuel I could get, but I do not know if it actually gets me any benefit by doing so..
Is it possible your rateing systems/quality of the gasoline is just different, and yours is rated much higher then it actually is, compared to US gas? And i do not know why any cars would be knocking.. especially ones like ours or other newer type cars. Where it has a fuel map in it which reads what gas you have and all will happen is maybe reduce power, but will prevent engine from knocking.
There are two different modes ecu runs at. One is open-loop mode and closed loop is the other.
If u drive those cars without much throttle, cars will not knock even with 80 octane fuel because the car will adjust the amount of fuel needed according to the o2 sensor output.
However, if you slam on gas or drive at high rpm range, it will ignore the o2 sensor output and run the engine according to the fuel and timing map written in the ecu. If this map is created based on high octane fuel, it will have tendency to knock with low octane fuel. cars usually knock due to the compression ratio being too high for the fuel or timing being advanced too much. The most common vehicles of this example are honda s2000 and prelude type s. And I am talking JDM ecu mapping here, usa cars got lower compression rate and are mapped for usa fuel. Easiest way to get rid of knocking for those cars is to turn the distributor to retard the initial timing a little bit - less power and efficiency but beter than blown motor.
ecu does detect knock and retard the timing but apparently the margin of adjustment isnt that great, otherwise cars wont knock.
However, z33 got same compression ratio for all models around the world, of 10.3:1 if i remember correctly.. which isnt that high compared to those 'NA performance' cars.
Maybe the rate we use in NZ is different to the ones in USA.. but octane is octane so i do not think they will have too much of difference? Some race cars run on avgas.. rated at 107 octane or so.
I think Australia got 98 octane fuel as well.. so does UK from what I heard?

where did you see that?
Unless you can compare a baseline done in 4th gear you can't say its a 20-30 rwhp gain
I remember reading a post where someone dyno'd in 4th and got much higher numbers than everyone else was getting
It also depends on what kind of dyno was being used
Not trying to slam you bleunetizen...260 rwhp is possible with those mods, but if you dyno in 5th I'm guessing you'll see 250 max. Again, dyno dependent.
I do not really think i gained that much power from mods. and we CANT use 5th gear. All JDM cars got speed limiter that cuts fuel if u go over 180km/h. But however, those numbers aint bs numbers because there were many other modded cars on that day- s2000 with 215hp at wheels, dc2r with 185hp at wheels and etc.
I am very satisfied with my result because it is very well balanced. very even torque all over the rev range
peak power doesnt mean anything to me, its the drivability that is important to me. Its got nearly perfect a/f ratio too, nissan japan must have done a really nice job mapping the stock ecu.
