How well is the auto trans for tt setup.
Just sold my srt and bought a wrecked 350z auto . Thats what i do buy and sell wrecks , well i did not sell the car efore i bought it other than exterior pictures. I got it and its an automatic, Would the trans hold up in under a twin turbo setup or should i sell it and get a 6speed? Please advise.
Hmmm....I'm sure that the auto tranny would hold, but just to be on the safe side get the 6-speed....Plus that way if you want to add other mods, if going to be easier to beef up the engine
Turbochargers work better on an AT because you can pre-load the turbos and you can torque multiply. This effect can eliminate turbo lag or at least minimize it. Let's see an MT launch a turbo under load.
Those that said that turbos on the 5AT will under perform or are less reliable than the 6MT haven't even told how they came up with that conclusion. How about you let us know how turbos are less reliable on the 5AT instead of just saying it and not backing it up.

auto tranny with a tt kit on it will be unreliable because auto trannys are weaker and i have seen someone with a auto and a aftermarket turbo and their tranny shifted not as it did when it was stock...its a known fact more hp=more problems esp on auto trans

How fun is the Z to drive with Auto Tranny anyway?? To me it seems like Sportcars with AT are the equivalent of a Dog that's been castrated (meaning the dog's "fun factor" has been diminished....if you know what I mean).
Sorry to all you AT Owners...that's just how I feel.

To me it seems like sports cars are suppose to be fast. 90 something % of the time 6mt are just so damn slow compared to the AT's in races (high 13's-14 sec even compared the mid to high 14's in the 1/4 mile). Plus, can keep up with 6mts in all other aspects of performance. (meaning the 6mt Z's "fun factor" has been diminished....if you know what I mean).

Have any of you guys who say the AT will not hold up and is not as fast as a MT ever been to a drag strip? 99% of the fastest cars at the strip are autos. Granted beefed autos, but autos. I came from the Ls1 world before I bought a Z. The fastest F body Ls1's (9 second cars) ran either a beefed TH350 or a Powerglide.
Stock for stock I don't think the auto is any weaker than the mt... there are more upgrade options for the 6mt though. I don't like to get in the 6mt vs 5at debate I know some people would never drive an auto and thats fine with me and I know others who think 6mt is a chore with little reward and thats find with me too. I just can't stand the people who think a 5at is less of a Z and the owner that car is either old/a *****/lame etc. Not everyone races or drives their car to the max or could care about a 1/4 mile pass, they still get to enjoy the power of the Z when they want to pass someone on the highway.

Biggest problem with FI on an auto is the WOT problem where you won't shift in time and bounce off the rev limiter. People have fought with this issue alot. A common fix is raising your rev limiter via ECU flash but this can cause more strain on your setup so you would want to go conservative on how much you boost the engine knowing you will be taking it a little over the normal redline. Others say you just need to do th TB mod and or a new TC but I have heard conflicting reports. So FI can be done on the 5at but its more uncharted territory than the 6mt... but in either set up your going to want to do some tranny mods.

Chances are your friend didn't have his car tuned right. Most of the FI units for the 5AT Z come with piggy back ECUs or you can get ECU flashes from 3rd parties like Technosquare to fix this shift problem. In my opinion, FI should only be installed and tuned by a professional to minimize any problems whether it's a MT or AT.
In general, when you modify any engine and tranny from stock thay you will have more problems. It doesn't matter if your car is an MT or AT so I don't buy into your argument that it is particularly limited to the ATs.
On the Z, FI reliability is dependent on the installer, tuner and how the car is used regardless of what type of tranny you have.

Most of what your saying is right, also an AT 350z turbo, and a 6M Z turbo same hp head to head, the auto will win, because when u shift in the manual is cuts of a little boost, AT holds it.....But if a tranny was to break down FIRST it would be the AT, i have owned an auto sports car before and not doggin on the auto drivers, im not a diehard shifter guy either, but the stress of hp makes both trannys weaker, now back to the person who started this thread if u go FI i would opt for a 6M and upgrade the parts as needed.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean because I don't know what it feels like to be a castrated dog. If you have been castrated and experiencing problems you should really see a therapist or a doctor. A car forum really isn't the place to discuss this.
