Default Help!! Cant engage reverse!

I had the car sitting in the garage at home while I was on vacation in europe for about 2 1/2 weeks. Got into the car yesterday morning and couldnt engage reverse what so ever. Tried it today and still couldnt. I drove the car yesterday, regardless, WOT a few times hoping it would do something. Nothing happened. Dont know if any of you have heard of this. I tried doing a search, but only got tranny problems with grinding etc. What should I expect. I was planning on going to upstate NY next week for the 350Z rally/meet. Wanted to take the car on Waltkins Glen, not sure if I could. I would really appreciate if someone could get back to me, as pushing the car out of parking spots sucks A$$. Might get hernia.

I doubt its because of his ability. He said he was on a vacation, meaning hes been able to get it into reverse before.

Or maybe he has brain farted!

Keep us posted I want to know the outcome. How does a tranny lose reverse while sitting in the garage?

I bet he forgot about the pressing down technique!

I have this problem with 1st and reverse once in awhile. I'd have to press and release the clutch a few times, and sometimes it grinds as I get in gear. My dealership refuses to give me a new tranny despite this issue and grinding while driving. I literally have to wait till my tranny locks up or something before I can take it to the dealership for a new tranny. :-(

All right, first of all, I have had this car for over two years.....hence, no brain farting! Never had a problem before. It is a six speed. And as far as getting another car CUxtpoher, that was uncalled for. Just asking all of you, because I know that many of you have had different problems with our some times tempermental cars. In the past, this forum has helped me a great deal with a number of TSB that the 2003 had. Just doing the same thing, before I bring the car to the dealer, who at times isnt to aware of the flaws/character this car has. Any other opinions would be great, thanks again.

Cars don't just brake after sitting for 2 months. Do you have an aftermarket shifter? Have you tried letting off the clutch, put the clutch in put it in 4th, release the clutch, put the clutch in, and shift into reverse? Sometimes shifting to another gear like 4th first will help you get it in reverse.

Maybe you never had reverse,

Seriously, if you can't get it into reverse, take it in, thats normally covered under the factory warranty since you own an 04!

actually.. have the dealer come to you. it's kind of a hazard if your car can't go backwards.. what if you get stuck on the way there =P

If I have problems going into 1st or R I will first put it into 6th gear then R. OR I will put the car into any of the lower (or if you have to higher) gears and let the car move about 2-3 inchs. It should let you put it into R after that. If not take her in to the dealership.

Check fluids. I know on Hondas the 5th and reverse are the first to go if fluids aren't at proper level.
