so whats the cost difference between the window antanna and our current setup? I tried searching the net but no luck on any info.
Actually this isn't a new idea. Way back when, my Mom had a 1980 Buick Regal with antenna embedded in its windshield.

Really? Sweet, how was the reception on it? Was it a wire type or an acutal hard metal antanna that was hidden?

Just be thankful that the antenna isn't on the FRONT ...like my GF's new Nissan Xterra.....LOL!

She just traded in her 2002 Eclipse GT, which DID have the antenna built into the rear window and the reception was great....

NOW I ask you.....If a near bankrupt automaker (who got dissed by Chrsyler when they were begging for a handout) like Mitsubishi can DO THIS...Why the hell can't a REAL Japanese automaker like Nissan do it with the Z ??

Real funny thing is Mitsu is REALLY hoping it's NEW, OVERWEIGHT, FUGLY and UNDERPOWERED 3.8 liter V6 - 263 HP Eclipse will save the day!! Hell naw.....LOL!!

Uhh..that's what I meant by "economies of scale". Costs always rule. The only successful companies in ANY manufacturing process are those who can quickly attain and then maintain EOS.

BTW, Zs in the middle east market have rear windshield-imbedded antennas as that market does not get the roadster.

The funniest thing is that on the third to last page of Nissan's official 2005 Z brochure (the long one), there is a full-page pic of a DB roadster in motion, taken from the driver's side in a 3/4 shot. Here's the kicker: They Photoshopped the antenna mast right off the car! You see the base, but not the antenna! Sort of Nissan's sheepish admission that the curves could have been helped without that massive growth on its rear end. I laughed way too loud when I first noticed that!

first thing i did when i got my Z was to replace the stock antenna with the S2000's antenna - fits perfectly, excellent reception and looks great. I think the Z looks better with an antenna vs. a window one - but not the stock one...

Yeah, window atanna would be nice but the S200 atanna on the Z looks good too. Like someone mentioned, makes it look like a remote control car.

both my '73 chevy nova and my '73 pontiac firebird had the antenna wires embedded in the winshield. neither had good reception, though.

I wonder if the newer models will have window antannas?

Check forums at www.autoweek.com and look under the "Sheet metal" and then the "future sheet metal" forum. There is a long thread on the 2006 Z. A member from Dubai recently ordered an '06 Z and listed that the antennas are window-embedded. Another ME member posted that roadsters are not sold there. Being from South Asia, I don't know what ME has or hasn't, so I tend to believe posts that no one has anything to gain from posting false info on.

I'll chime in here too. My '69 SS 396 Chevelle had its antenna embedded in the windshield. Lousy reception but it looked good.

aalzuhair is from Saudi Arabia no? He has a Z, I think he would know if his Z has a window antanna or not. take a pick of your Z aalzuhair and maybe some proof that its from Saudi Arabia (license plate frame maybe). Its also hard for me to believe that they make Zs here with external antannas and not somewhere else.

Here is a picture of a shorty - reception was a little worse than the stock antenna. I listen to CD's the most.

Here is a picture of S2000 antenna - reception is better than the stock antenna, looks good and doesn't wiggle in the wind like the stock antenna.
I just install it when I know I want to listen to the radio before I take off. It is always in the glovebox. The shorty antenna looks so good.

I think the antenna placement is reminiscence of the 240Z. Check this thread and if you see the picture of the 240Z, notice the antenna placed, it like the 350Z. https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-nissan-350z/140422-240z-to-350z-a-tour-down-memory-lane.html

Wow, I must admit I am from a cave. I didn't realize Saudi Arabia was such a happening place. I always think its like Kuwait. Wait, I do recall reading somewhere that alot of exotic cars are sold in the middle eastern countries especially Dubai which I would love to visit one day.

Also, I didn't realize that letters are used in Saudi Arabia, I saw the word "parking" in one of the pics. And for the license plates, how many letters are there, why so long?

We use two types of plates the long one as in the pics "Euro style" and the normal shape .. and we use three letters and three numbers.

And what makes you think Kuwait is not a happening place?
Dubai is certainly very nice, but spending a week there last July made my eyes burn every time I stepped outside a temp-controlled area. That place defines hot weather. As for exotics, I lost count after seeing the 20th Ferrari/Lambo in the first couple of days. Beautiful cars on beautiful roads.
