Default Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror w/ Homelink & Compass

Has anyone tried the rear view mirror with compass? I have an 04.5 Touring with auto-dimming mirror (homelink, no compass) already. I'm just wondering if the compass mirror is a plug-compatible replacement?

Curiously, the info I read about the compass mirror says it works only with the Base model Z, not Enthusiast, Performance, Touring or Track. The installation instructions include wiring procedures, so, apparently, the Base model is not pre-wired for the new mirror. The other models are wired to accommodate their auto-dim/homelink mirrors.

It seems like you could unplug the regular auto-dim mirror and plug the compass mirror in its place. Or, am I missing something?

Yes, you just remove your old mirror (very carefully) and plug in the new one if you have the wiring harness installed. I have the compass mirror in my 2003 tourning. The car came with it. It works perfect as does the homelink. I'm able to turn my interior house lights on from the car when I pull into my driveway. I believe something is backwards. Every model except the base is pre-wired for it. It would take about an hour to install this mirror and the new wiring harness in a base model.

I have a GM Autodimming/ Compass mirror in my Z (no homelink), and I love the compass!

The compass is really useful. I just stick my garage door opener in the sunglasses holder.

I have the autodimming with homelink but no compass and I have a touring. But I do have the navigation and it has a compass in the navigation program. Are you saying the rearview mirror compass is supposed to come with the touring by default?

No it's not standard. The one with the compass is a factory accessory if i'm not mistaken.
