question for people with black Zs
Whenever i look at my paint up close (about arm's distance actually) there are little tiny white spots in the paint. and no matter what i do they wont come off. this is all over the car. does anyone else have this?

My dad once bought a new silverado with white paint. While at the dealership before he actually bought it, he noticed the exact same thing in the paint of this white truck. He asked the service guy what it was and if it could be removed before he bought it.
We were told that the little white to silver looking specks were very small pieces of metal
The guy said that the trucks were shipped via train all around the nation, and that as the train went over the track it would A) get the metal in the tracks really, really hot; and B) some of the track would break off in these small pieces and land on the paint while they were still hot enough to melt the clear coat, sink through it, and then the clearcoat would reseal. This would leave the very small specks that we could only see within about 2-3 feet of the paint, and only in certain light conditions.
I really don't know how much truth is in this, but it makes sense in my imagination. And besides, my dad's truck had the little specks that no amount of washing would get rid of, same as yours...

I have tiny chips all over the front of my SB '04. I think a big part was buying used (eBay...won't do that again) and that the original leasor was from Texas. I have the feeling he went flying down some sandy, dusty roads too close behind people, got a lot thrown-up into his (now my) front end...
Yes babbagandu,
I have the same issue with the paint. I have been to two dealerships and a body shop. The first blow off answer was "rail dust." Then it was, oh you must have gotten some sap on it. So, I took it to the dealer where I purchased the new '05 black 350 and they clayed the entire car and then buffed the entire car.
No help.
The conclusion of the "detail guy" at the dealer said it was under the clearcost and must be an overspray or something done during the initial paint job.
So now I sit pondering how much of a fight I want to get into with the dealship/Nissan over providing a decent paint job.
The detail guy said I had the best shine and finish of any black car he had ever seen so there was no question I was taking good care of the car, but couldn't solve the white specs all over the car.
Let me know if you have any luck with Nissan.

My biggest regret about the Z is getting it in black i hate it it shows every scratch chip swirl ....
I am really considering just trading it in for another color z and putting all my parts on it.
