Fast and Furious 3
Hello,
This is my first post so I figured that I would use it for something substantive.
I hope that this hasn't been posted yet. I have been perusing this site for about a month before deciding to join and haven't seen this article mentioned. If it has, kindly refer to me as a newbie who should more thoroughly utilize the "search" function and I'll understand.
Anyway, glad to be here and enjoy the article:
Import Racer magazine. October 2005. Volume 6 No. 10. pg. 12
"C'mon, you didn't think that Universal would't do a third movie after the success of 2F2F? Tentatively set for a 2006summer release, Fast and Furious 3 is set partially in Los Angeles and partly in Tokyo. The third installment's lead car may be the Nissan 350Z. Considering the massive hit Devon Aoki gave audiences in 2F2F, it makes sense. Remember her sketching a concept 350Z throughout the movie? Okay, maybe you don't, but she was really working on a Z."
"Fast and Furious 3 will also focus on, suprise, drifting. Vehicle cssting already took place this summer in Irwindalen California. The casting team was specifically looking for Nissan 350Zs, leading us to believe that it may be the lead vehicle. A similar vehicle casting call took place in Tokyo with hundreds of cars coming out for their chance to get in the movie. As part of the pre-production, stunt drivers were called out to an undisclosed location for auditions as well. No word on whether Paul Walker or Vin Diesel will return to reprise their roles. By the time you read this, filming on the latest movie will have commenced."
I know there was a calling for the 300ZX to be featured, but this may good for the Z legacy as well.

Anyone else completely upset by the fact they may use our car as the lead car? I mean this movie series is a huge embarrassment to the REAL car culture that exists out there. The hollywood interpretation of the drift scene is almost guaranteed to give the actual thing a bad name and on top of that have our Z associated with it.
I am disgusted.

Those movies are TERRIBLE!. The most horrible, lack of plot or purpose movies I have ever seen. The only reason I ever watched them is to see some cars but even the cars look like rice junk. I don't want my Z in these movies. PLease no!!

I disagree, if you take it for what it is. Movie car fun! Hollywood is known for drama and over exaggeration. I think it's kind of cool. Everything goes a little over board in the movies. Now if, the movie gets people into drifting in a positive way (at the track) then I'm OK with that. There could be a bad element in the movie of drifting on the street and someone gets hurt or killed. It would nice to see how they portray the Japanese culture and even give them a little Hollywood coolness. It would go a long way in the US-Japan association.
We might actually learn something from Hollywood. Hollywood is full of messages in their movies. Why not a couple good messages of kids just want to have fun? Then maybe the tracks will be profitable and people will be safer.
Just my .02.
Ah, I remember the day well .......

The Z she was working was actually in the 2nd movie. Near the end you see her polishing the fender while sitting on a chair for about 2 seconds. They don't even show the entire car. I posted a screen grab on it a few months ago in some thread where people were listing Z's seen on TV and movies but I couldn't find it with search.

Too many non-actorsw in those movies (ie. Rappers) Although they are kinda of entertaining, that is, if you forget about everything you know and jsut act like your a 14 yr old kid. I would be sad if the f'ed up a Z for the main car in the 3rd one though.
This response in another Z forum seems to confirm what the article says:

I can certainly see how the inclusion of the Z could be a good thing. The movie certainly didn't hurt the image of the Supra or RX-7. In fact, it may have done the opposite.
I can also see how the movie could make the car trendy. The reality still is, though, that tuner teens that could make a car seem trendy really don't have access to Zs.
