Default Hardtop convert. for next Z.

I hope Nissan will use this hardtop system for the next Z. I can't see why not except for cost production. The fact that Nissan has venture into this idea is interesting since we all know that concepts are only there to display possible future options not to necessary make the concept car itselfs. If not the Z, I'm sure the Infiniti will get it.

At least, Nissan doesn't charge $2K for a automatic soft top like Chevy does with the Vette!

1. Virtually no trunk space.
2. The 350Z would not keep the lines that it has at the back.
3. Someone mentioned the weight.
4. All the Audiophile guys will be pissed that they can't put in their subwoofer mods.

Personally, I think number 2 is the most important. And 3 is a close second.

Yeah, the weight thing is bad but if you want a convertible, you are in a way giving up performance for luxury.

Now that I have put more thoughts into it, I think they outta give the Infiniti the hardtop since it is a luxury car, and for the Z, just focus on performance.

I wanted to buy a roadster but I didn't like the way it looked w/ the top up. If Nissan could make a hard top roadster w/ better lines (w/ top up) than the current roadster I would trade my coupe in for it. I think a hard top Z is a great idea.

If you need trunk space buy a Maxima. The 350Z is a sportscar.

The trunk space is used for many more things then just a grocery getter.

The trunk can be used to put the twin nitrous setup or the 2 to 4 subwoofers. Think outside the box, man!

And are you for this convertible roof or not? Because if you are, then your statement on "The 350Z is a sportscar." doesn't really work, since I doubt a real sport car would be racing in the track as a convertible.

True that, I love to golf and I can barely fit two bags in but I hate doing it cause its such a tight fit. Also, once you get old like me, performance is great (i love blowing away the rice-rockets by an fart like me) (27yrs )but some comfort is nice and I love the comfort of the sun, but the soft top looks so ugly when its up. Although the hardtop would add extra weight, there's still things one can do to boost the performance. But if performance is really important, get the coupe.

I hate to point it out, but there was a time where these true "sports cars" only came as a convertible. More recent history has brought about the hard top sports car.

You mean back then, there used to be real sports cars with retractable hard tops like the original poster brought up which we brought up would lose trunk space which lead us to this...

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder...I got a ZR, which is my first vert...basically because I thought it looked cool with the top up too. I usually dont like the look of ragtops with the top up. Something about the look of the ZR just grabbed me.

The Ragtop shape has grown on me.. it was a tough call between a loaded touring HT and the Enth Roadster.. the Roadster won out and the different roofline isnt so bad..

The likes with the top down are sooo darn cool.

Hardtop convertible = too much weight and too much money.

Actually, no, I was referring to sports cars of the 50's and 60's, no hardtop convertibles. Do I like hardtop verts? Yes. Do I think they belong on a Z? No, and hopefully, I won't see one in my lifetime.

I'd prefer the car be the way it currently is.
