both old and new engine peak torque at 4800 rpm

that means the old engine is producing more power up to atleast 4800rpm... and probably for a while beyond that too. Not 2000-3000rpm Needed to clarify that

I was considering a 2006 350z... but with 150lbs extra I'm going to keep my 2003 for a bit more...

Wouldn't this be dependent on the shape of the torque curve up to 4800rpm? I heard/read that the 300hp engine has a flatter/more even curve at lower rpm's.

it's an old debate... The old engine produces power faster(at peak torque the old engine produces 20 more hp than the new one and I suspect it catches up above 6000rpm). And it does happen often enough that during tracking sessions I get to keep some gears bellow 5000rpm instead of downshifting.

The new engine is undoubtebly a better engine, but 13hp 200rpm later does not compensate for 150lbs of added weight. I believe that in 2006 the 350z should have been able to compete with the E46M3(2000)... instead it has lower power to weight ratio than the 2002 350z... It saddens me a bit.

there is no reason to believe that the new engine is producing more power at even lower rpms. It's still more or less the same engine, and being that torque curves are pretty much uniform, if at 4800rpm the old engine is producing more torque, it just means it is producing power faster atleast up to 4800rpm.

Strange. If you do an Inventory Search on NISSANUSA.com, they have 2 of them, a Silver Alloy Auto Enthusiast and a Silverstone Manual Base.

I don't think this ever got answered - will the non-Brembo '06s be able to use 17" wheels (pre-06 base/enthusiast wheels)? TireRack seems to think that 17s will fit on the '05 Track model, but I didn't think so.

What you say/write makes a lot of sense. I think in the end, it's all pretty much the same, performance-wise.

And I'm not an engineer, but there's a quote in the old Road and Track article that has me scratching my head, 6th paragraph (boy, these guys didn't like our Z).

along with the extra bhp, gives the V-6 a more linear torque curve. You may also notice a slight improvement at the car’s top end and a little less down low, but the general character of the V-6 remains the same; it pulls well off the line and runs out of breath up high.
power output = torque over a time period(RPM).

Since the new engine produces less torque, it needs to rev more times per minute to produce same power. old engine = 287hp@6200 new engine = 300hp@6400. the 13 extra hp come 200rpm later... this also means that at 6400 rpm. the new engine is producing more torque than the old one.

the 300hp engine is a slight improvement... but not if you add 150lbs

every wheel that comes factory equipped on a 350z will work on any 350z... brembo or non-brembo equiped..

Jason, what if you just wanted to replace the center console and keep the manual shifter trim with the A/C controls, can that be done or do you just have to do everything. Also can you get a price on it, I want to do it asap if the parts are available

I am really eyeing the Grand Touring models however I dont like the 18/19 inch combo. Is there any way to get it with all 19's or I guess what Im asking is can the rears fit fine on the front without any issues with alignment or possible feathering? This way I can rotate the tires as well.

Jason if possible could you take a picture of the IF automatic. By IF I take it you mean Interlagos Fire. A dealer here in Chicago said it might be the end of the month before they see an 06.

TIA

sure... you can go to the NISMO LMGT4 in 19's...

I dont know the offsets of the new track wheels yet.. I havent taken them off the car,.. once I figure it out ill know if you can definatly put them on the front with a different tire size.... pretty sure you can, but not 100% sure yet...

Is the IF really a different color or did they just re-name brickyard?
