Gotta have a sense of humor
My midlife crisis came at 40. My kids were grown and out of the house and I no longer needed my Datsun station wagon. So, I sold the Datsun and bought a 1991 Nissan 240 SX. What fun! What a great car! Now, 14 years later, I decide it's time to move up. I buy a used, low mileage, 2003 Brickyard Touring 350Z. WHAT FUN!! WHAT A GREAT CAR!!
In Colorado (btw, the Z is amazing to drive in the Colorado mountains) you need to have your newly purchased car tested for emmisions. So, I take my Z to the emissions station. When you get to the emissions staion, you pull up to a Stop sign, hand over your paper work, and leave the keys in the car so the testers can move the car forward onto the dynamometer. You get to wait in a special, exhaust free area (with windows so you can watch your car being tested).
So, I'm standing there, with some salesman from a BMW dealer, both of us admiring my car. He has never seen a brickyard before. He asks me, "is it fast?" As he asks, the kid, who looked like he got his driver's license last week, gets in the car, puts it in first, and hits the gas. My Z shoots forward. The kid pushes in the clutch and slams on the brakes, stopping about 2 feet from the car in front, which had just been tested. The BMW salesman looks at me, laughs, and says, "I guess so."
So, now, I can see the kid trying to figure out how to put the Z in reverse. He keeps inching closer to the car in front. Finally, he shuts the car off, gets out of the car and comes over to me for help (good move, he was getting pretty darn close the car in front by this time). I back the car up onto the dynamometer for him. After my Z passes the test, he waits until there are no cars in front of him before driving the car forward. The BMW salesman and I were in hysterics.

Still remember my dad's 91' 240 sx, wish I had gotten a Z, but he still envies me for owning a 35 Sedan! (He still drives the same 240)
Why did you not show this 'kid' how to drive a stick? Laughing is great, but you've been there before...havent we all??? Ok...I know I have!lol

First of all...I must say DANG!!! 1st post here after joining back in January of 2003. That is impressive....
Now that that's out of the way, CONGRATULATIONS on your car. The 350 is a great car for sure. I'm originally from Boulder (spent my first 19 years there) and YES the Rockies provide some great driving roads for a car like this, you're lucky to have 'em.
Enjoy it.

I would have flipped out on that kid for sure. I definately would have DEMANDED that someone else help me out that knows how to drive. I think you took it pretty well to tell the truth....
