I've seen this car posted before on a ChicagoZ thread. The stripes don't look too bad but what I'm not feeling is the HUGE text on the side of the car. But hey, whatever floats his boat I guess...
The racing stripes aren't totally hideous, but do you all see the big stickers on the side? I can't read what they say, but that part of it looks completely terrible.
Anyone know where that car is from? I saw one similar when I was in Washington in July, with a younger guy driving it. But I don't remember if it was this exact one.
For those of you too young to remember--colors for race cars (British Racing Green, Italian Red, etc.) were to help pit crews and corner workers identify the various teams. This was long before radio communications were the norm in races. As more and more participants showed up, solid colors were no longer specific enough and racing stripes were adopted (wide, narrow, etc.). Fortunately, in-car/pit radio communications came along by the time racing stripes had outlived their usefulness.
Thing is, racing stripes still look, well, sort of racey. As long as it is clean and well cared for, it is a righteous ride.
