Forget about what, shifting?? You can set the RPM that will trip the flashing indicator in the tach if you need some sort of visual reference. But jeeze, your're gonna break something sooner or later.

I think hes asking if the rev limiter is a safety mechanism, or if you hit the rev limiter is it too late...Basically, is the rev limiter the actual physical redline or is the redline the redline...id say just shift man.

That little electonically adjustable rev limiter is nothing more then a way to have your dash light up for you to indicate when it would be good to shift. You can set it for 4000 rpm's, and the engine will still run all the way up to 6800 rpm's. Its there as an aid, not a preventative measure.

So to be clear, the shift light has nothing to do with the built in rev limiter. It just sets the threshold for the light so that you know the rpms without looking at the dash. As far as i know, you need to reprogram the ECU to change or eliminate the rev limiter.

Just practice and you will learn on when to shift ! Don't make it a habbit of bounceing of the Rev limiter as it will damage your engine one day.

its happened twice, and if it was as easy to me as to shift the damn car, i would not have made this thread would I? i know i need to watch when i shift, after all, i have been driving an auto for a few years. its just that to me, 4500 feels just like 6500. esp. when a 50 year old man in a corvette runs off and leaves me like what happened today after work right before i made this thread.

i was asking if it was a safety cut off, not the engine ****ing up. cause i was really worried... thanks to those who answered me.

i was not asking anyone when to shift, i know, but when i get caught up, im paying more attention to the road and not my rpm's. i just need practice..

and also i know the light/adjustable rpm thing on the lcd screen is only for the light, not a "limiter" i did change it down to 6500 just incase the light actually catches my eye, it wont be to late

Isnt 6500 a lil high for a "safety" rpm to catch your eye?

The rev limiter works well most the time. Its not perfect, but good safety mechanism.
