I never go to the 1/4 mile track and I don't go around looking for street races (esp not against SUV's).

If you wanted to buy the car with the fastest straight line speed for the best price you wouldn't have gotten a Z in the first place so you shouldn't freak out when faster cars come out.

When I picked the Z over the other cars I was looking at I didn't even look at 1/4 mile times. I test drove all the cars I was interested in and I picked the one I liked the most. I had no idea people were getting stock Z's into the low 14's high 13's till about a week after I bought the car.
+1 !!!

I rarely race, I went to a track once (i loved it tho and going to be there every time i have some free time and when the weather is nice).. I dont street race and Im at WOT sometimes when im getting onto a highway... 287 hp for a stock Z is PLENTY for me....for now...

Don't say Evo or those other juvenile `boy racer' looking cars either.

The Suv will never equate to the Z. Never!
As for those of us with the intention of keeping our G/Z's for longer than a few years....The domestic will die (in every sence) and the import will triumph overall once again..........

Reading that first post made me laugh. I just got back from AutoX today. There were three Corvettes running today, including one Z06 that I heard the owner bragging that he recently got back from the shop. He had a new built-up engine put in it putting down well over 500hp to the wheels. None of his four runs were any better than my best time. And it's not from lack of experience, he's been Autoxing just as long if not longer than me. One of the other vettes had similar times to me and the third was noticeably slower.

All of those guys paid a whole lot more for their vettes than I paid for my Z, and I sure don't see where they're getting better performance for the money.

Drive what you love. This shouldn't be a *****-measuring contest.

In addition to those points, I think azjimbo was trying to say that speed in and of itself is not the only/true measure of a sports car's worth.

Many agree. The RX-8, severely underpowered and "weak" when compared to the Z, won a spot on C&D's "10 Best" list while the Z did not, and this was because it has "surgical" handling. R&T favors the S2000 for the same reason.

Compared to ridiculously-powered SUV's or other behemoth heavyweights, the Z will kill them any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

And no matter how many horses you have or how stiff your suspension is, nothing LOOKS like a Z.

The gestalt of the Z is what wins.

Default What is the point of this thread?

Last time I looked, this forum was about a particular model of sports car so why are we even talking about an SUV?

I can understand talking about the Z in context with other cars like the Honda or other sports cars but a TRUCK

To me the Z is an icon that i have always admired. Now I finally have one and it's more than I could have hoped for. Keep all the others if thats what you like because thats all that matters.

I will keep my 35th Anniv for a very long time and will always enjoy it no matter what else is out there.

I just replaced my 1990 eagle Talon with 62k on it with this Z and although that car is way oudated, it still looks hot and can still turn heads. I am pretty sure my Z will last the same 16 years or longer (summer driving of course) and the Z certainly has history behind it that will keep it an icon for an awfully long time.

So go buy your SUV (btw I think my Titan will kick the **** out of that chevy) and your hemi's, me, I'll take my Z and in 16 years when your's is long dead you can look at mine and say DAMM!!! I used to have one of them.....Peace Z lovers.......

Handling on the z is poor? are you actually driving the car?
1/4 high 13's is slow for a beautiful car that's not made for the drag strip? sorry, but you are a fool. cars are going to get better every jear; you just have to deal with it. what is nissan doing about it? they are releasing the gt-r. if you're worried about 1/4 mile times, buy a 1982 Buick Grand National. It's an ugly POS that can run 9's. go buy that trail blazer and have everybody ask if that's your dad's car while all the girls turn around and beg for a ride in the z. that one seat is much more special than the other four or five in a trail blazer.

only read first two posts. i didn't buy my z to compete with anyone. bot it cuz i wanted a porsche-style car but didn't want to spend porsche money for it. there will always be someone faster. besides, the trailblazer is a chevy, and i'm not an suv guy anyway. i'm a sports car guy, and the z meets my wants and needs just fine.

Straight-line speed bores me. The Z may not be the best at anything, but it's pretty damn good at everything. During the AutoX today I took STi, A4, Vette, and Miata owners for a lap and they couldn't get over how much fun it was riding in the Z compared to their cars.

I think I'll keep my Z, thanks very much.

axxizzer i feel ya on that they are under power cars. Im in the market for looking for a new car i was going to get a z so my dad and I could build up are cars together but im in the middle now. my dad has the 350 as his second car so i always drive it. After driving it i love the looks i get in the car and it feels sporty and all but it just dont put the power down like i thought it would. Im having a big problem cause i looking at the evo, supra if i ever find one with low mile for a good price or the Z.

Beating a WRX is no biggie, but imagine the fact that the WRX costs a few thousand less, and with 1K in mods, will spank any more expensive Z.

- It had a new exhaust (from the sound as he had it floored) That'd run a thou right? And I've done nothing to mine.

GTRs...Skyline GTRs? What? explain that one,

-1990 skyline gtr... great on acceleration, Z better handling. On a twisty mountain road it was really no contest.

but and A4 is a little POS bottom-barrel Audi. Good job beating that car that doesnt even try to be sporty.

-Sorry, I meant S4.

And the cornering ability of the Z is pretty...humdrum. It still oversteers, and is heavy, and has ****ty tires and wheels...

-You must be a bad driver. Sorry.

Some of you guys are so fixated on HP. Take a xanax and relax.

The Z is an all over sports car. Go drive an SRT4 and see how long you can put up with its cheap interior, low build quality, engine popping, FWD torque steer'ness.

RWD sports cars are usually reserved for a more affluent buyer. Nissan did us a real favor with the Z.

Don't worry a NEW Z is around the corner. Nissan has always liked being the HP kings in their class, so I'm sure they won't disappoint.

Guys relax. You have one of the best looking and best handling cars on the road. This car will age gracefully. Go out to a track even if you can, really enjoy the car.

The GTR and a new Z is around the corner. Don't go getting yourself into more debt/negative equity just for some more straight line speed.

What the hell is Nissan going to do about this? Why do we own Zs if we can get a BETTER vehicle for the same price? Sure, the Z is sexy as hell, but damn, how many times have you had to borrow a buddy's truck, or rent your own, or just OWN another? Now you can do anything you could do In a Z, in something that can tow a trailer.

The Z is kind of dying! The WRX is getting faster, the Corvette is MUCH faster for just a tad more money, the M3 is getting faster, Porsches are getting faster, THE EFFING EVO, STi, Lotus, etc

I seriously cant think of one car the Z will beat as a sports car V sports car!

It must be a dying breed, the Z. For the next generation, its getting heavier, more cushy, SLOWER, and there isnt a damn thing we, the owners/consumers can do about it.

can you define "better" than the Z? Perhaps a clarification of what you're apple to apple comparison points are would help the discussion a little.

There are certainly cars that do "things" better than the Z, but they're not the same cars.

tell me what your resale value will be on the ss in 3 yrs when you want to get a new veh cause (something is better than your ss) compared to the z you'll get sh**. i personaly could never buy an american car/truck again cause i would cry when i would try to trade it in. its bad enough they rape you on trade ins but american cars/suvs they bend you over.........
but its all good on what you want to get. if you feel better sitting behind a blazer more power to you bro....
