Tire inquiry from new 350 owner...
Does anyone know if there is a time frame on fixing those lousy stock tires...I just bot the 03' enthus. with 27k. Rides great and don't want to stop driving...however, I'm not sure if cabin noise is typical-i don't mind it. Point is...if I have problems with those tires in a year will they replace them? They look new and the car has 27K on it...Just being cautious...and maybe I can make my current ride even better....any help would be great. I have read threads...but haven't seen anything about a time frame and etc... Thanks,
mike350.
PS. Glad to be part of the 350 community....Love my car!

Welcome. Tires general need replacing when the tread wears out or the steel pokes through. As for a time frame, it depends on how the car is driven. I could wear out brand new tires in about 30 mins if i really try. Just giving ya a hard time, at this point why would you want them to replace them? They will just put on another set of ****ty stock tires. Just take the hit and buy your own.
Hi Mike
I have an '03 that has the tire roar problem. I got tired of waiting for Nissan to replace my craptenzas so I bought a set of Avon Tech M550s. So far, I only have a little over 2k on 'em, but no noticeable tire roar yet. My original front craptenzas were worn out at 4k and the rears are almost bald at 20k. Ditto lax91181 and get ya some good tires. I had the Avons mounted on a set of SSR GT-7s for easy switching back to the OEM wheels and tires whenever Nissan releases a new TSB for the tire roar issue. The Z is a pure sports car and so some cabin noise is to be expected. Sound dampening material is kept to minimum to help keep the weight down. It shouldn't be so bad that you have to crank the radio just to drown out the road noise, though. If this is the case, then you might have a tire roar issue. The tires can look new, but the feathering on the inside edge will cause excessive noise at low speed and under braking.
Don't hold your breath waiting for Nissan to change to a different tire. I've been trying to get my problem fixed for two years and the dealer keeps telling me Nissan isn't authorizing any further work on 03s with the tire roar problem. However, I just recently received a notice to bring my car in, and at a pro-rated amount they'll put on the redesigned craptenzas.
This is the only problem I have with my Z and I love the car to death. Its a blast to drive. I live in NC and go over to the mountains every chance I get to open her up on those great mountain roads. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours as well. If the noise really bothers you and its not from the feathering/roar issue, then there are some good sound-proofing solutions available. A search on this forum should give you some good information about a number of products.

If you are looking for nissan to do anything, I believe you have up until October 31st to have them correct the alignment or replace tires under warranty. I am taking mine in this thursday to have nissan do a "once over". I have had minimal tire roar and the wear is not bad at all. I maybe a lucky one and have avoided the problem. However, eventually I will replace with a better overall tire.
Just an FYI. In the letter that Nissan usa sent out regarding the tire roar/fethering issue, they state that Oct. 31st is the deadline. However, according to my local dealer that's IF your car is past it's 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty. Otherwise it ends when your warranty expires.
Additionally, if you've replaced your tires due to excessive "roar" and/or feathering, you may be eligable to be reimbursed. I talked with Nissan usa and was told that I could go ahead and replace my tires with Michlins or Goodyears and I would be compensated for the front tires as long as I purchased OEM size or 225/50/18 (for my touring model). I stuck with the 45's as I didn't want a taller tire.
I just sent in all my paperwork so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Nissan will send me a check.

Got my 03 Enthusiast back from the dealer today with brand new Potenzas on the front. The thing is so quiet now that I can't believe it. The tires were replaced under that TSB for uneven wear and roaring. Also got the alignment with the new specs.
No this weekend I will take off the stock 17s and put my stock Touring 18s with 245/40-18 front and 265/35-18 rears on it.
Still can't believe how quiet it is now!
