Default Chirp in Third

I'm having a hard time getting my stock Z to chirp in third. I don't think I'm that bad of driver, but who knows. I've read other reports that the Z may pick up a bit of speed over time (I only have 4k on it), but I doubt its enough to add a chirp where there wasn't one before. Any suggestions?

Bald tires are a great way to get the Z to “chirp” in third gear. “Chirping” or tire spin will hurt quarter mile ET. Not help.

I don't really race at the track. It was more about personal satisfaction as I sped down a road that I could get a squeal out of 3 gears! oh well :-)

I had it happen once during an AutoX but it ws purely accidental. Since then, I've learned to shift smoother so it has never happened since then.

It used to happen to me on my stock tires but now that I have aftermarket wheels with a 19x10.5 in the rear and a 285 tire its hard to squeel on 2nd

I used to "chirp" 3rd gear all the time, on both stock tires and once I upgraded to 255/40R18 S03 Pole Position tires on stock rims. However, once I got the new rims with 275/40R18 Michellin PS2's now 2nd is almost down to just a chirp (instead of a good 1+ second peel) and 3rd is clean.

After installing my crawford cats and reset my ecu, it will chirp when shift to the 3rd. Mine has 30.5k miles on it.
And I agree the statement that the Z will pick up some speed and power after you put a few miles on it.

haha I was ready to call the BS on chirping 4th until I read it all. I did that once and it was scarey. I don't think I'll be down shifting to fourth on the freeway anymore.

Why not? why were you scared? Just rev match and you'll be ok.

Thats the key. I've rev matched and downshifted to 3rd gear on the highway when I was racing my buddy in his Modded GLI. I destroyed him when we started....I forget exactly what RPM's it was at 50mph.

I don't think I've ever chriped 3rd...not that I try to either?

basically... if you are 6MT on stock tires and you don't chirp 3rd gear when drag racing, you aren't shifting hard/fast enough. BTW yes I do lift to shift, so that isn't necessary. Just very fast shifts. Nobody is saying you should chirp 3rd all the time, or even on purpose.

i would get it most of the time in third, but ya the key is to keep the throttle pegged and shift fast. just watch out doing it in the rain, lol. i have found my self going backwards down narrow roads from this move, hahaha. and fishtailing on the freeway infront of a couple semi's on a bridge, and fishtailing next to my friend i was trying to race, then the time i ........... you get the idea. now after my current mods, hahaha, spinning in thrid is just 1/2 throttle away with a roll on.
