Guys like it or not its in the 350z class according to the Automotive press etc....They already tested it and though heavier than the new Mustang[yeah you read right
] its straight line performance is right there with the Z...Either its underated at 263hp or it has some really aggressive gearing to be able to trap 101mph in the 1/4...Thats right there with us...I really want to run that guys on my block and see the first hand results...I suspect that higher up speeds in excess of 115-120mph the Z will walk away but down low to about 100mph it will give a Z a run for the money from a roll...From a dig I think the Z will eat it up because of the better rwd config....Eclipse has more than 60% of its weight on the front wheels...ewwwwww...Bad for handling and for 1/4ing...jmho

Dude, did you not read Speedracer's post above? His whole post was explaining why the Eclipse is NOT in the same class as the Z. He cleary hit the point spot on, and his point is further proved by saying speed isn't everything. You can make a Civic faster than a Z like he mentioned. Hell you can make a Hyundai Elantra faster than a Z if you wanted to. Does that put the Hyundai in the same class as a Z now? Seriously think about what you are saying. A car that goes fast is a car that goes fast. A genuine sports car with heritage, refinement, and most of all CLASS, is in a league of its own.

You didnt hear me say its a better sportscar than the Z did you? You can tell yourself what ever you need to to feel superior...Fact is most of us have runs on the highway and not on a cuircuit track...So in that venue the Eclipse is competative with the Z...It traps at 101mph in the quarter and does 5.8 to 60mph...very much competative with the Z...That is what my point is..Of course on a cuircuit track the Z would most likely hand the Eclipse its *** on a platter. I dont bleed Nissan or am I brand loyal so I dont suffer from myopia like some of you do...
Real sportscar fans will chose the Z over the Eclipse period..But for the masses that these cars are marketed to all they will see is the comercials that have the RX7 bowing to the Eclipse[?] etc and they will see it in the same league with the Z...And the first time one stays with you on the highway all you are gonna hear is "Z's aint that fast" etc.....Also for you high and mighty types the Mustang is also in our class according to the auto press.

That is not the point I was making..Fact is the Eclipse is marketed at the 350z class/potential owners wheather you or anyone else likes that or not, hence the reason for the thread topic. That was the point of my post since some feel the car is not a competitor. Maybe now you see how M3 owners feel when we try to put our cars on their "overall" level. The Z competes with the M3 on cuircuit tracks but not in a straighline..The Eclipse competes with us in a straighline but most likely not in turns. Cant have it only when it favors your way of thinking..

Now:
"You didnt hear me say its a better sportscar than the Z did you?"
- No, and I didn't say you did either.
"Fact is the Eclipse is marketed at the 350z class/potential owners wheather you or anyone else likes that or not, hence the reason for the thread topic."
- A manufacturer can "market" their new car to be anything they want. This does not automatically place them in a class of their choosing.
"So in that venue the Eclipse is competative with the Z...It traps at 101mph in the quarter and does 5.8 to 60mph..."
- Once again resorting to some speed numbers? What do you think the whole point originally was? Maybe you should wipe the lint off your dirty glasses and try reading again, tool. Just because the car can "keep up" with, or even beat a Z in a straight line, track, etc. doesn't put it in the same CLASS as a Z. It can run laps around a Z for all I care. Will I respect the Eclipse's performance/speed? I sure will. Would I ever say the Eclipse is in the same class as a Z? Never.
"Real sportscar fans will chose the Z over the Eclipse period..But for the masses that these cars are marketed to all they will see is the comercials that have the RX7 bowing to the Eclipse[?] etc and they will see it in the same league with the Z..."
- So basically you're saying that you believe everything you see on TV? This just gets better as I keep reading.
You keep giving Mitusubishi and their marketing department the go-ahead on who decides which car is in what class. Let's now attempt to get this through to your somewhat apparently thick skull again this time: MITSUBISHI'S MARKETING TEAM DOES NOT DECIDE. Want to know who does? The original designers/engineers of the car when it is made."Also for you high and mighty types the Mustang is also in our class according to the auto press."
- Wow... Your "Auto Press" comments are becoming quite the thrill to read now. It seems to me that you, my young fellow, have not the ability to decide anything by thy one self. You seem confused and turn to others, anything else with any information for relief. First Mitsubishi's marketing, now the "auto press"? Again, the "auto press" does not decide what class a car is in either. You sure sound like a magazine racer by that comment. Everyone already knows their performance numbers and that they can supposedly keep up with a Z, so don't bother saying that one is going to surprise me. You keep thinking speed = class, but it doesn't. Speed = speed.
And now at this point I'm not even going to bother saying any further. I just realized how much pity I feel for you so I almost want to give you a hug. In any case. My discussion ends here. I can only take a debate seriously when the other is at least somewhat decently intelligent enough to hold one. If you want to go around thinking the Eclipse is in the same class as a Z all day, then nobody is going to stop you. I just want you to be happy, so please just step outside of the basement, garage of whatever you're in right now, and go for a 30 minute walk around the park/neighborhood. Have a nice day.
Guys...there's NO reason to be arguing about Eclipse vs Z. Bottom Line is that Eclipse IS NOT a SPORTCAR....IT'S A SPORTSCOUPE, Like the Celica or RSX. That AUTOMATICALLY puts the Eclipse in the wanna-be category. Plus, it handles just slightly better than a damn Ford Taurus.
In fact, the ONLY time when the Eclipse/Talon MIGHT have been a Sportscar was waay back when it was AWD Turbo. They should have stuck with THAT plan.

Potatoe you are so effing thick its amazing. Im about to peel your ignorant azz
...Because I said the Eclipse is marketed as the same class as the Z doesnt equate to me thinking its a better car. Did you finish 1st grade? You need some serious reading comprehension classes...Anyone reading my posts with "UNDERSTANDING" will see where Im coming from...Im responding to those that dont understand that the Eclipse is marketed as in the same class as the Z despite some of our feelings on the matter. If you couldnt get that from my post because of your extreme myopia then you cant be helped....
NOWHERE did I say the Eclipse was the better sportscar. There is no flip floping...Its just that one of us has reading and understanding skill and it aint you ...Bias is a terible thing spud...It blocks you from thinking straight or seeing the truth or the other side of the coin....Look at its acceleration and its marketing focus and any fool can see what im saying. You mock the length of my post then you come back with lenghty incoherant verbal diarrhea...Way to go spud..

No need for personal attacks. I read all the posts. Neither poster (potator or SnakeBitten) is unintelligent or nearsighted, just a difference of opinions/definitions.
True, Mitsubishi did market the Eclipse to be the "Z-fighter" (per one mag, can't remember which one), but we'll have to wait and see if the buying public agrees that the Eclipse is in fact "competitive". Sales figures will determine that.
Arguing that the Eclipse is in the same "class" is academic (and perhaps irrelevant) at this point. Anyone driving a Z can beat a stock Eclipse. If it makes an Eclipse owner feel better about his/her purchase to be included in the Z's company, I say "welcome".

Can't say anything good about the new Eclipses! Those things are ugly as hell.

i love all eclipse's. mistsubishi has their way of doing things, and it always gets done. the agrument about it copying the Z's styling.... its not like the Z wasn't slightly influenced by the Celicas...

jealousy is the best form of flattery. whenever you hear one vendor bash
another in an ad it's like openly admitting you have the inferior product. a
true product can stand for itself without having to compare it negatively
to sell it.

I swear I'll donate 5 dolla to this forum, if this thread is closed down. This is the most retarded waste of bytes EVER.
It is so basic
FWD vs RWD
Would you compare a Eclipse to a Lotus or any other serious sports car? When the Eclipse becomes RWD, then it can be considered a contender.
It's this simple. There are no other cars like the Z for the money. Not one other purpose built 2 seater RWD sports car anywhere near the Zs price point. So, until then discussing competition is pointless, because for the money there is none
