Dude, did you not read Speedracer's post above? His whole post was explaining why the Eclipse is NOT in the same class as the Z. He cleary hit the point spot on, and his point is further proved by saying speed isn't everything. You can make a Civic faster than a Z like he mentioned. Hell you can make a Hyundai Elantra faster than a Z if you wanted to. Does that put the Hyundai in the same class as a Z now? Seriously think about what you are saying. A car that goes fast is a car that goes fast. A genuine sports car with heritage, refinement, and most of all CLASS, is in a league of its own.

 

Dude Im not on Speedracers ballz like you are...I have my own opinions and I deal with reality. Carguys know the Z is the better sportscar. That is not the point I was making..Fact is the Eclipse is marketed at the 350z class/potential owners wheather you or anyone else likes that or not, hence the reason for the thread topic. That was the point of my post since some feel the car is not a competitor. Maybe now you see how M3 owners feel when we try to put our cars on their "overall" level. The Z competes with the M3 on cuircuit tracks but not in a straighline..The Eclipse competes with us in a straighline but most likely not in turns. Cant have it only when it favors your way of thinking..

You didnt hear me say its a better sportscar than the Z did you? You can tell yourself what ever you need to to feel superior...Fact is most of us have runs on the highway and not on a cuircuit track...So in that venue the Eclipse is competative with the Z...It traps at 101mph in the quarter and does 5.8 to 60mph...very much competative with the Z...That is what my point is..Of course on a cuircuit track the Z would most likely hand the Eclipse its *** on a platter. I dont bleed Nissan or am I brand loyal so I dont suffer from myopia like some of you do...

Real sportscar fans will chose the Z over the Eclipse period..But for the masses that these cars are marketed to all they will see is the comercials that have the RX7 bowing to the Eclipse[?] etc and they will see it in the same league with the Z...And the first time one stays with you on the highway all you are gonna hear is "Z's aint that fast" etc.....Also for you high and mighty types the Mustang is also in our class according to the auto press.

- Once again resorting to some speed numbers? What do you think the whole point originally was? Maybe you should wipe the lint off your dirty glasses and try reading again, tool. Just because the car can "keep up" with, or even beat a Z in a straight line, track, etc. doesn't put it in the same CLASS as a Z. It can run laps around a Z for all I care. Will I respect the Eclipse's performance/speed? I sure will. Would I ever say the Eclipse is in the same class as a Z? Never.

Guys...there's NO reason to be arguing about Eclipse vs Z. Bottom Line is that Eclipse IS NOT a SPORTCAR....IT'S A SPORTSCOUPE, Like the Celica or RSX. That AUTOMATICALLY puts the Eclipse in the wanna-be category. Plus, it handles just slightly better than a damn Ford Taurus.

In fact, the ONLY time when the Eclipse/Talon MIGHT have been a Sportscar was waay back when it was AWD Turbo. They should have stuck with THAT plan.

No need for personal attacks. I read all the posts. Neither poster (potator or SnakeBitten) is unintelligent or nearsighted, just a difference of opinions/definitions.

True, Mitsubishi did market the Eclipse to be the "Z-fighter" (per one mag, can't remember which one), but we'll have to wait and see if the buying public agrees that the Eclipse is in fact "competitive". Sales figures will determine that.

Arguing that the Eclipse is in the same "class" is academic (and perhaps irrelevant) at this point. Anyone driving a Z can beat a stock Eclipse. If it makes an Eclipse owner feel better about his/her purchase to be included in the Z's company, I say "welcome".

I had one of those also. It was a pretty good car, easy to drive, had decent power, and actually had tons of room to haul stuff, too. Yet, compared to the Z, it plowed through turns, couldn't keep up the acceleration, had a wirey shifter, and seats made out of light foam rubber.

 

i love all eclipse's. mistsubishi has their way of doing things, and it always gets done. the agrument about it copying the Z's styling.... its not like the Z wasn't slightly influenced by the Celicas...

Would you compare a Eclipse to a Lotus or any other serious sports car? When the Eclipse becomes RWD, then it can be considered a contender.

It's this simple. There are no other cars like the Z for the money. Not one other purpose built 2 seater RWD sports car anywhere near the Zs price point. So, until then discussing competition is pointless, because for the money there is none

 

if the only way to promote your car is by comparing to another one..you know you have just lost it. i hate those cheesed out ads.

 

Agreed the new eclipse is junk and ugly as sin! I only like the 1st and 2nd gen turbos.
