listening to the radio the other day and i heard a commercial for the new eclipse. didn't pay much attention until i heard 350z. next time i heard it i paid attention. the gist..."a 3.8 liter blah, blah, blah, with a 650 watt rockfod fosgate sound system, blah, ten speakers, subwoofer, blah," and here's the best part- "the 350z has got nothing on this. except for about $16000. the only true affordable sports car on the road today, the new eclipse."
everytime i hear it now i just have to shake my head. so has anyone else heard this? or is just a local radio ad?

 

The fact they call anything with FWD "sports car" is blasphemy

 

i havent heard it...But i have a guy on my block that just bought one in silver...I must say it looks better in person than in pics....Waaaay better than the model it replaces that had the Pontiac cheese grater sides...I think my DBZ looks better though...But the Mitsu has a better interior and is just as fast in 6speed as the Z 6speed according to mags tests....Dont understand how that can be since the Eclipse is 3570lbs with 263hp and front wheel drive. MT got 14.4 @ 101mph. Gearing must be real aggressive. The Z is 200+lbs lighter and has more horses...Better traction with the rwd for the Z will make it out ET the Eclipse but on the highway stock to stock it will be very close....

 

Yea just dumb *** local radio ad that's paid to promote the Eclipse.
If the Z really has nothing on this car, why have I only spotted, since its release, two...TWO...both driven by girls too.

It's got some torque steer as well from the reviews that I've read.

 

My GF just ditched her '02 Mitsu Eclipse GT for a New Nissan Xterra...She wasn't really happy with the Eclipse.

I thought it was just OK...decent power (200 HP V6), but very uncomfortable seating position and sluggish handling, NOWHERE NEAR as nimble as the Z.

The new Eclipse has that big azz 3.8 L V6 and ONLY puts out 263 HP?? Every car mag says the car is overweight! Mitsu would have been smarter to tweak some more HP outta this car, to compensate for the added weight!

Plus, they tried to copy Nissan's idea of going "old school" and recapture the "glory days" of the 90's version Eclipse. End Result looks like crap!

 

Arnt they roughly the same price anyways?
MSRP on the 06 Eclipse is $24K for the GT V6
Base 06 Z is roughly the same, correct?

Money for money, the Z wins hands down, WTF was Mitsubishi thinking, they will never make anything like the Z in the smae price range. And don't say evo cause them things new are a lot more with 0 options, I looked at one, I know.

 

The only REAL advantage that Mitsu has pricewise is a less expensive V6 Convertible...BUT it STILL ain't a Sportscar.....it's a dang Sports COUPE

 

there was a purple lookin 1 next to me yesterday!!!! and honestly must say that i would never drive that car !!! id get it for my mom or something !! its girly as hell !!! but thats all they got on the z is the sound system..woo hooo , we should all go sell our z's now, the new eclipse has more speakers i cant stant the thought of that...hahaha those morons

 

mmmm i dont kno bout the FWD....i always think sports cars are always RWD...but i love my HONDA's! hahahha never really got into mitsu's....i dont really like the 06 eclipse too..and not because im bashin it cuz i have a Z....i'll take a lot of cars over the Z heheheh but personally i never really like mitsu's..EXCEPT 98' lancer EVO (THE REAL OG) or the 98 GSX or GST..

 

I don't know where Mitsubishi is going with the Eclipse. My opinion is that it is a Z knock-off. It's styling is very close to the Z. Mitsubishi has the Evo, which is an awesome car...but not very sexy looking. But its a rally car, not a sports car. How do they top that? The Eclipse is left as a wannabe sports car. I feel Mitsubishi did it right with the older AWD turbocharged 4 cylinder which predates the EVO in this country. Unless Mitsubishi wants to produce a real sports car (That means rear wheel drive and a sexy body in a car that is a pleasure to see AND to drive) they ought to give it up or go back to producing a good performance sport COMPACT. It reminds me of how Volkswagen got lost after the GTI got fat and heavy and they decided to produce SUVs and the Phaeton. Talk about losing touch with your customers. Rich

That's what I was thinking, a 3.8 v6 should be pushing more HP compared to the VQ35 engine on the G/Z. I guess the Tuners at Nissan are superior to the Tuners at Mitsu?

I loved my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, it was my first "sporty" car and was very good to me. As soon as I test drove my Z, I loved it even more. Lots more zip, more rare on the road, and I love the stares I get when driving it.

Can't say anything good about the new Eclipses! Those things are ugly as hell.

My last car was a 99 GSX Eclipse (the all wheel drive one) Loved that car, but haven't looked back since my Z- light years ahead of the LAST of the great Eclipses.
THE add, however, speaks the TRUTH. The new Eclipse sound system is light years ahead of that pathetic Bose system we are stuck with. The rest of the car is BS next to our Zs
