The '06 is faster because the redesigned taillights cause less drag on re-entry.

Seriously from what Ive read they are about the same performance..I suspect that higher up over say 115+ you may see revised motor do its thing but I dont know if anyone has done top end testing between the 287hp/300hp cars...

Default Congratulations and welcome.

The question isn't if the 2006 350Z is slower or faster than the 2003 2004 2005. The question is “how fast are you?” After break-in go to the dragstrip, and post your time slips in “drag racing.” Then we’ll know the answer. Have fun and be safe.

but from the info i read on the Internet, the 35th anniversary edition has more hps, but heavier cause it goes slower than those previous version. and the 06 Z version has the same hps n weight as the 35th anniversary edition, 06 might has the same problem as the 35th anniversary edition, slower. as i thought.

It has more to do with the loss of torque... 287 HP engines were rated at 274 TQ, and "300 HP" engines are rated at 260 TQ. I am sure exhaust cam VVT is quite cool and all, but it was mostly a marketing strategy to say "we now have a 300 HP motor" by using a little tuning trickery. Seems to me like the marketing strategy worked, everyone and their brother tells me how the new G's and Z's have a bigger (and/or more powerful) motor than my "old" one. LOL, so I explain what REALLY happened and prove it to them at the drag strip.

+1... When random people ask me now I just say my car has 300hp to shut them up... K&N air filter is good for 13hp at the crank right?

i heard the new and the old are about the same in 0-60/quarter-mile. the added weight on the '06 is compensated by the 14 extra-HP.

Wrong the 2005 track model with 300hp/260lb.ft. is faster than the 2006 one because it weighs less. Same with the 35th one. They increased the weight of all models in 06. My opinion is that the 05 track is the fastest of them all.

Lol, I hate having to explain about the different motors....sure they got 300 hp, but they lost 14 lbs of tq....I always thought on a cold day that with my popcharger I was making or pretty close to making 300hp, I read the article of the testing of the popcharger, and they said they got 13hp to the crank if I remember right, so I just say I am making about 300hp and more tq then the new motor....then again the new motor gets 400 more revs and makes it peak hp higher right?

Either way, I have always seen the new motor as a marketing ploy, what is the changed parts betweed the motors?

The 300hp has stronger internals, revised ecu, new cams, and a new lower plenum with shorter runners. But yeah you are right I would rather have more tq. and surpass thier crank hp with intake, pulley, headers, exhaust, hfc's,plenums.

Another subject that gets beat to death. My answer is the same. The 287/274 has consistently tested faster that the 300/260 model plus the 03 etc. are lighter.

I just raced an 05 G35 with an Injen intake Sat night (will post video thread later) and that car has the 300 hp motor, we went from a roll and the difference was imediate...Now I had my GF in the car, the guy himself was probably 6' but only weighing 150 or so, I had my GF in the car (5-3 110 so I aint complaining) but my heavy ***, 6' 185 and getting heavier thanks to the Gym 5 days a week is something to complain about LOL...Anyways, from a roll I would get the jump after the honk thanks to the TQ, and would inch away through each gear even with both of us in the car. From a stop, it was also clear, we both did a small burn out but caught traction at the same time, as soon traction came my car powered a half car ahead through first, it was instant pretty much, he hung right there all the way through the gears up to 3rd, but he also traps the same as me...my car just feels and looks faster when hitting it....

all these changes and only 13hp and 400rpm.

If I modified my 287hp with revised ecu, new cams, short runner manifold, I would sure expect more hp and rpm for my effort.

Can't I get 13hp with headers, hp cats, and a y pipe?

And a $2000 or so lighter wallet helps with those ETs, too

same... I say I have 300 HP yet more TQ than the new motors. If they care, I explain the lower torque (all a tuning ploy). Look at my sig... on that same day, same dyno, same conditions... blah blah blah a 2005 G35 with the "new motor" put down 241 HP and 211 TQ. I am not seeing the power improvement... but I am dang sure seeing the loss of TQ he has. I will keep my '03

I am not seeing new motors put down better 1/4 mile runs either. Actually they are usually slower. No clue what the magazines are saying.
