torn between a used 350z and used evo8
Alright. Here is my $.02. I had a 92 Talon it made crazy power (450hp). Trannys, not so good. I went through 5, in less than a year. So if your are are a good driver get the EVO. Hear my warning!!! don't ever miss a shift in it, you WILL destroy your syncro!
But on ther other side the 350Z turns heads and is sexy. I love having a rwd car. The power is good to.

I currently own a Z, but will probably be buying an EVO in the next several months (the lack of a back seat is simply a problem for me, my wife, and my stepson). I don't have my cars "modded". I kind of figure that if I wanted a faster car and had the extra money lying around, I should have just bought something different (and had a warranty). It strikes me as a bit irrational that preople are modding their cars to up power by 1/3 or more, do high RPM launches, and then complaining about weakness in the driveline.
I like to compare beyond just the EVO and the Z. Anyway, I've driven the EVO previously (as well as the STI - and owning an S2000). My impression was that the EVO and S2000 are the best handlers and the STI and EVO are the fastest in a straight line. As far as exterior looks, my opinion is that the Z is best overall (though the nose is a bit too bland and the taillights too weird). The interiors are hard to compare. The Z would have to be considered the best with a better relationship between the seat, steering wheel, shifter, and pedals than all but the S2000. But the Z's interior materials and fit leave something to be desired. The EVO, though it has the absolute worst gauges of the bunch, has such goodies available as leather seats, a 315-watt Infiniti stereo, and a sunroof. The STI has the best gauge cluster of the bunch with huge red-marked gauges, but does not offer leather and gives everyone blue inserts no matter what the exterior color. In addition, the Z and S2000 offer little utility, with no back seats and miniscule trunk space.
In short, none of them are perfect.
