Thumbs up Order-to-Delivery 15 weeks

And now the words that we have all waited to hear, "Your Z has just arrived at the dealership."

Yep. Got the infamous call at about 5 PM this afternoon (Saturday) for my CS Performance. I had talked to the salesman earlier today to make sure he was watching for it since it was due any day. Another salesman said he called me within 1 minute of the truck pulling in and was standing guard so no holes would be drilled in the front bumper and no dealership sticker would be put on the back.

I did all of the paperwork this evening and I'm picking up the puppy tomorrow after church at about 1 PM. (They couldn't get a tech there quick enough this evening to fully check things out, hence the 1-day delay on driving it outta there.) I also talked to the guy cleaning it up and had him save all tags and stickers that came with the car.

SUMMARY
  • Placed order with dealer Sept. 13 (Friday the 13th!)
  • Dealer placed order with NNA Oct. 2
  • Received Order # about Oct. 15 (W212###)
  • Build month was Nov.
  • Received VIN Dec. 3 (107###)
  • Appeared in dealer inventory (nissanusa.com) Dec. 27
  • Arrived at dealership Dec. 28; completed paperwork
  • Taking delivery tomorrow, Dec. 29
  • Total wait, about 15 weeks.

shift me to the owner group

Congrats! I don't understand how you can wait until tomorrow to pick it up. If it were me, I wouldn't be able to sleep all night.

Welcome to the Z brotherhood, but more importantly, welcome to the Secret Fraternity of Chrome Silver 350Z's.

Michael.

Thanks a lot, Michael. To be sure, I probably won't sleep that well. Maybe tomorrow night I'll sleep in the car..........

I've been distracted all day today, because early tomorrow morning I'm getting on a bus to go to St Louis to bring a Blue Touring 6MT with graphite leather back to Nashville I had plans this weekend to wire my upstairs bedrooms for cable and ethernet, but have spent the whole day working out the details of the trip and playing on the net. Oops.

Never got on a Greyhound before, but it was faster than flying with all the layovers (not even counting security delays), and I just worked this deal out last night. Not to mention how much cheaper it is.

Congrats, WayneTN.

Congrats Wayne. According to your formula I have about 4-5 more weeks before she gets here. I guess I can manage to survive. Be sure to take lots of pics when you pick her up tommorrow.

Wayne congrats, I am about 3 months behind you (ordered at dealer Dec 7, BUT just missed the dealer ordering it with NNA by ONLY 1 week, SO now I have to wait til beginning of Jan for NNA to get order). by your formula I should get mine end of March (unless the process is sped up a bit by then )

How is it that you scored it in 15 weeks. Damn.

I ordered mine a while ago I don't have the confirm # and yet the dealer is telling me delivery date will be Feb.

Trix,

Your not alone....

I too ordered a while back (Sept), yet have still to even be given an order number (though the dealer assures me the order was placed).

Ordinarily I wouldn't mind since they gave me an estimated delivery date of February. Problem is, I know for fact that the same dealer has taken orders AFTER mine which it has already delivered on!!! They only compounded my distaste by calling me up, telling me that my car wasn't in yet, but would I like to instead purchase a Z that someone else backed out of (higher-end model with higher-end price of course).

I'm curious as to whether or not the dealer will even deliver my car by February. If not, then I'll probably cancel the order and just wait until toward the end of 2003 to buy one.

First ride home..............

The dealer let me and my son take it down the road to top off the gas tank - put in a little over 19 gallons. (Of course, the dealer paid for it.) Car had 7 miles when I picked it up. After I made a final check back at the dealer's, I headed home the long way. Man, was it sweet. Everything worked perfectly: solid shifting, no rattles, no vibrations.

On a 4-lane divided highway I caused a small traffic jam at one point. Someone pulled up behind, but didn't pull around (I made sure I wasn't speeding since that section of road is watched pretty closely). Another car then pulled up to my left rear corner in the inside lane, but also did not pass. My son said everyone was looking at the car. After about a mile and a 7 - 8 car backup, I pulled it back from 6th to 4th and stepped on it a little, ran ahead some just for fun, and veered onto yet another back road and on to my house.

It really doesn't get much better. This ride is definitely worth the wait.

TriX,

I had just joined this forum and really didn't know much about the ordering process. I just kept after the dealer and told him that he should have an order number a couple of weeks after ordering my car and that the number would began with a letter, probably "V" or "W", and then have six numbers. Sure enough he found a report that had W212### for my car. I just kept after them from there, periodically getting updated reports on what was going on. That's all.

Good luck!

Heh, as I pulled out of the dealership today after getting mine, there was a car of high school kids that forgot to go at the light because they were slobbering all over their windows as I took the right onto the onramp. Pretty funny. Had a similar thing happen when I test drove the G35C.

WayneTN, have you hit any concrete interstates yet? Man, after 5 hours of that going across MO, IL, IN, and KY, I was seriously questioning my purchase. All the bouncing made me tired. Finally, I got down in the southern part of KY where there was asphault, and started grinning again. It is smooth sailing if there aren't those repetitive expansion joints. Car felt great.

I can take hard rides when hitting pot holes, etc, but the bouncing has got to go. I may have to upgrade the suspension once somebody figures out that issue (may be too soft on rear shocks according to some here). Strange thing was I test drove a car here and drove it in one of the few stretches of interstate we have that is concrete, and it wasn't so bad. Maybe tire pressure can help. I adjusted mine down to about 33 from 37-38 that it had.

Oh, and more good news! I don't scrape coming in to my driveway I was worried about my curb and slope.

Congrats again on your purchase.

Thanks, MannishBoy.

Haven't really tried a stretch of concrete sections like that. I've hit some of those on vacations before in my SUV and it can be a roller coaster. New asphalt that's done right makes things so much better.

Saw another post on tire pressure. They had upped it a little and claimed a significant difference on handling, but that might make it worse on surfing concrete........

Glad you didn't scrape on your driveway. I can't remember if you got the aero option or not. I installed the front lip spoiler myself (involves 6 bolts and 7 clips) and it lowered the front-end clearance only slightly, to about 6-3/8 inches. Obviously, that's not the lowest point on the under side, but being on the front it could scrape under some conditions. Be careful on pulling up to curbs in parking spaces - it may scrape those.

See ya.

I drove about 60 miles all around Nashville today, including I 440, which is concrete. Our concrete is better than those midwest states by a long shot, and my car felt much more like the one I'd test driven here. I was much happier, although I'll keep my eyes on the suspension guinnea pigs around that forum. Maybe just shocks will be able to calm it down a bit, as some seem to think it is a shock/spring mismatch problem causing the kinda harmonic bouncing.

I probably will order that piece for the front, if only as an early warning device to let me know if I'm going to scrape something more vital This car I found didn't have the aero package.

The car would probably be a lot more fun on your side of the state with the twistier roads. May have to cut through Morgan County next time on the way home to Harriman, instead of just sticking to the interstate

Yeah, take Hwy 70 through Smithville, Sparta, and Crossville. It's a great scenic road if you can take time off from I-40.
