Default How dark should the tint be?

I'm getting a free 350-dollar metallic tint job with my red 350, and tomorrow i need to tell them how dark i want it. The options are 18%, 28%, 38%. I want people to see my face, which means 18% is too dark. I'm thinking of going with 28% for the sides and 18% for the rear window. What do you guys think? It would be really great if i could see some pics to compare! Also, should i buy some dark overlays for the tail lights? I've never seen a picture of them on a red... anyone?

Make sure the back is as dark as possible to keep people from looking in your hatch if you happen to keep anything in there

Better find out what the legal limit is for where you live before you go and have some "gangsta" tint installed on your Z. First off, why give the police an excuse to pull you over? Second, and I don't know what the laws are in Canada, you may not be able to pass a vehicle safety inspection. Finally, make it dark enough and you won't be able to see out, much less anyone seeing inside. It's a PITA trying to back up and having to roll your windows down in the rain to see what's behind you.

VERY good point!! My dad made that mistake once with his truck and got $3000 worth of tools stolen.

You might want to check to see if metallic tint is illegal...it isn't allowed in lots of places.

Edit: Now that I see your post asking for bulbs that flash clear I doubt you are concerned with the legality of your tint either. Good luck with both but keep in mind that you draw attention from the police if you draw attention from everyone else.

I've never tinted any of my cars and I've been thinking about it. My dad said he doesn't think it's a good idea, because when it starts to fall apart and peel off, it will be a big mess to get off. Has tinting gotten any better? I don't think he's tinted any of his windows since the 1970's.

If you are NOT racing the 350Z, read not further:

One of the key assets in racing is vision. Clearly seeing obstacles, turns and other vehicles. Don't compromise your safety (and the safety of others) with window tinting.

The obvious thse days is to get the lifetime warranty so the person who tinted for you can handle any messes.

I have 20%. I think 28% would be what you are looking for.

On a low profile car like the Z, 20% is like limo tints on a sedan. My sedan had limo tints all around. My Z and my sedan were almost exactly the same. Have fun backing up, you wont be able to see ****, it's very annoying.

Mine's 18 % Llumar all the way around....Remember that any aftermarket tint(that's not factory) on the passenger and driver side is a ticket, so I just did mine the way I wanted it....Limo's a tad too dark at night but 18 was perfect....
I just try to put em down when I see the fuzz...
If I get a ticket every now and then, I'll just pay it, cause I aint gonna peel it....

Does anyone know what the tint level is when you get the car from the factory like the Track model. Cuz I know some Z's come tinted and others don't depending on color.

I have mine 35% door windows and 20% rear quarter windows and hatch glass. Looks great, and the 20% is alright for backing up at night.

i have 6% on mine all around and it's wonderful! whether or not someone sees you in the car also depends a bit on the interior of your car....if you have black then you won't need to have a really dark tint for the "limo" look but if your interior is frost then you might need a darker tint. AND even with the 6% tint i don't have any problems seeing when i'm backing out or looking at my side mirrors. i think dark tint makes the Z look better but that's just me...

15% sides and rear for me. Gonna do the front like 50% I think just so it has something. Our state's limit is 30% I think so since that is visibility, mine is twice the legal limit. No tickets for it (yet). I can see just fine... even a the Tail of the Dragon the tint didn't "obstruct my view" because it is made to be able to see out, just not see in.

I will say that "sometimes" when backing up at night I have to roll down the windows if there isn't sufficient light (parking lot) or the lines are just too dull to see (parking space). I love it

20% is the most you can go in Canada (Quebec is much less than that)

I've got 28% all around and like it!
Good luck
