Holy shi!t this is hilarious that I just saw this thread! My girlfriend has been begging me for months to ask you guys if you have the same problem. I can't get out of my Z without it shocking the crap out of me (and my girlfriend.) It was so bad yesterday that I saw a freaking orange flame about an inch long come off my hand and the door handle. OUCH! Is there something not weird about this? I have never owned a car that did this, nor ever heard of it happening before. Is there something wrong with the car and it's grounding? Does the one foot on the ground while touching metal thing work?

it has to discharge somehow, your a fine source, if you had a bare foot on the ground it would still go through you, but you wouldnt take a charge from it.

to stop it, simple way is to do like was said, drag a wire from the frame to the ground. it will ground the car.

you guys obviously dident read the fine print associated with the xenon package. this package includes xenon lights, and an experimental force field which protects the car from collisions dings and flying road debris. the shock you get when you get out is simply the left over energy from your plasma shields after they power down. so there is no real way to avoid it... err, yea i dont know where im going with this one, but yea that would be pretty cool if thats was the case.

I am like Pavlov's dog now. Literally, after I get out of the car, I fear touching any door handle. I have leaned to use the back of my hand, as it hurts less.

it happened again tonight, except this time i actually saw the orange charge fly out of my hand and hit the door handle, needless to say it was extremely cool, but at the same time, extremely painful.

My Civic used to shock me on a daily basis. But ever since I've own the Z, no problems. I drove the civic a few times and I didn't shocked recently.

My Civic does the same thing to me (Omaha, NE). It happens less in the summer, which I've always chalked up to the humidity. It's really nasty in the winter, though. What I've always done is hold onto the door as I get out of the car, let go of the door and then touch it gently with a metal key. You still feel the pressure as the electricity flows out, but it's 95% less painful. I also have static problems with building doors, light switches, etc. My workaround involves flicking the metal area with a fingernail. Quick touch = less pain (possibly cos it's just the nail touching). I do both techniques so much that it's become habit, even when I go back home to Maui. Walk up to a building, flick the door handle. Get out of the car, touch the door with a key.

Gotta heart thread revival.

Crazy little habit, but the tap of the knuckle masks the shock. It is just a little shock but I HATE getting shocked.

I have seen a new warning at a local gas station saying not to put gas into a metal container that is in your vehicle (trunk or truck bed). Instead set the container on the ground before pumping gas. The warning was on a sticker on the gas pump.
Yeah myself I close the door with my knuckles pushing on the handle. Less nerves in your knuckle = less pain. On the pluss side , closing the door this way leaves your handles fingerprint free!

Wow, look...It's the thread that would not die!!!

There's no way around it. Your Z will shock you eventually. If it doesn't, you should have yourself checked.

Happened on my old cars too under a certain circumstance, I mean when I don't think about it (most of the time) there is zero shock, but when I prepare it jumps on me immediately.
