There's talk in Munich of dropping the current E46's 333 hp big boy into the hardtop M coupe version of the Z4, and then THAT will be a force to contend with (aimed squarely at the Cayman S market).

That 5.4 sec 0-60mph time in the 2002 C&D article, however, was specifically for the Track versions.

The M version of the Z4 roadster as well as hardtop coupe is pretty much confirmed.. it will be the 343 hp version of the E46 M3's 3.2L I6... for a car that weighs around 3000 lbs and handles very well, that car will defenitely be a beast

With a price tag of $60K+, it had better be a beast.

I agree with you both. I had been reading articles regarding the introduction of the 333hp E46 as well as the tweaked 343hp for mid-2006 (BMW magazine sources). That's why I was surprised to read Road & Track's blurb: "...with a 360-bhp version coming later as a competitor to the Porsche Cayman S." That was the first and only I've read that stated such an outrageous number. I hope its true. That should be one exciting car.

Too many Z vs. Z4 posts.............

Just go buy the one with the most curvy lines. That should about do it.

To be honest the BMW launches easier. The Z spins wheels and loses time coz the clutch is too high up to get a nice feel. Handling-wise the Z4 just loses out, stock for stock.
