I think this thread is completely worthless. It's causing nothing but friction between us. We are here to support each other, not flame. Some people prefer MT, some prefer AT, who CARES! If you bought an MT, good for you. I don't need to say anything negative about MT, I respect your personal preference, so why can't you respect mine? You're not the one driving my car 300 miles a week to work, I am. You're not the one making my payments each month, I am. I've had one car with MT about 10 years ago, it just wasn't for me. Since it's been so long, I'm not that good at shifting. Did I want to freshen my MT skills on my brand new Z? Hell no. When I see threads like this on here, I want to click the red X on the top right of my browser and never come back. Grow up.

advanced AT and sequential technologies.
It's about evolution. I'm sure the purists argued power-steering was gay or
for pansies as well. but now they shun anyone who doesn't have it. sad to
say the same will happen for MT. it's not about how much we like or dislike
it, it's about the bottom line to auto manufacturers. As more manufacturers
move to higher tech, they will follow to be competitive.
And yes, MT is considered low tech compared to AT, SMG, etc.
And let's face it... the people making more money are able to spend more $
on a car. And there is a higher concentration of these people in areas that
are congested and where MT is simply not an option unless you enjoy pain.
auto manufacturers don't care what you drive... MT or AT. they care about
$$. bottom line. just look at all the components in your car that have been
developed to help your car drive for you:
Hill Descent Control (HDC)
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
Porsche Stability Managemetn (PSM)
Traction Control System (TCS)
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG)
Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)
Grade Logic Control (GLC)
and the list goes on and on. the fact that purists say they can control their
own car didn't stop auto manufacturers from putting these technologies into
their cars; sometimes optional and sometimes not. let's think for a moment
and ask ourselves just how sacred is the manually operated clutch to most
manufacturers at the end of the day? especially when cheaper to research
and maintain one build of a transmission. just look at the problems Nissan is
already having with its MT tyrannies!

To me, the MT is more of an artform or technique that i'd like to hold on to. Almost like why people still study hand-to-hand combat or fencing even though the firearm was invented. (I know that's a bad analogy since you can still pit an MT against a AT.) OR why people still fish or hunt when they can purchase meat from the store? (another bad example)
What I'm trying to get at is: It ENRICHES the motorsport, automobile, culture, heritage, or whatever you like to call it.
Sure the industry has created powersteering, ABS and all sorts driving nannies, but those are safety and comfort measures created for the average commuting consumer. Many automobile enthusiasts still forego those options in their quest to be more connected to the automobile.
We still have grassroots motorsports where the majority of the cars utilized are manual, where lighter, more nimble vehicles of yesteryear are preferred over the techno-equipped boats that manufacturers pass off as sports cars.
The industry understands this, that's why cars like the Lotus Elise, S2000, Evo, STi, only come, and are only preferred with a Manual.
As long as there is the desire, MT's will not phase out like most people would like to suggest. There is a place for both Auto and Manual transmissions. I'm just not convinced the MT will disappear anytime soon. At least not any faster than internal combustion, or the driver's sports car.
all im saying is i test drove a auto Z and drove a manual Z and its just a higher level of control and balance with a manual. I was also fustrated when i had a auto car previously and had to mod it to compare to manual counterparts. SO to me its a sports car ,get what began in a sport car (manual trans). Every review of a auto sportss car is negated by the fact that they chose a smg or tiptronice paddle type of trans. Even up to modena etc. complaints are given because of the F1 setups on every review i have seen. Its a great improvment over a reg auto . But just short of the expirence of enjoying the power with a manual. Give me a pagani zonda with a 7 speed sequential shifter and im in heaven. BYE BYE
