Who else hates the Badgering??
Hello all,
I currently own a 2004.5 Touring 5AT. I'm from the detroit area and I am 23 yrs old.
I constantly get people coming up to me and saying wow that is a sweet car, omg your car is soo awesome etc etc etc....
At work I get the same compliments...but...
"whoa, its an automatic"...."oh? its auto?"....."wow, they make those in auto::comes a sigh::"
Its almost like the biggest blow to your existence, they walk away feeling disgusted, and i look at them like wtf do you drive? AND 99% of them have AUTO cars. Maybe they are not Sports cars but they are none the less auto's and this isn't fudging Europe either.
Back check: I never was taught an auto, never grew up into imports, my whole family is employed in Ford, CHrysler, GM. Im currently employed in a Tier 1 supplier to GM. Growing up, it was all auto domestic cars, and a lot of my buddies of other nationalities grew up and learned stick becuase they all drove Honda's and Toyotas, funny thing is my parents are from Yugoslavia, and all they drive there is stick, but still...I never was taught.
So everyone...please show some hate, or some bonding, or just say what you will about this issue, i f***ing bought a 38,000 car and "oh its an auto?" but if it was a grand prix GTP or Cadillac CTS-V, oh thats no problem...Is it really my fault i loved the car and purchased it in Auto
. It really hurts to get feedback like that, anyways have a good one everyone.

Hey albopballer, all those guys who are badgering you prolly can never a Z in their lifetime so don't care about them. Also, why do you need other's to tell you that you have a heck of a car. Either this is the case or your just looking for some attention.

No, maybe you dont understand the thread that I posted...If you were in my situation and maybe some others you would understand, I just want some common bonding or some feedback on this issue. If i want some attention, ill run around naked during a Monday night football game in Detroit, which will never happen because the Detroit Lions suck so bad, but thats not the issue here...Im just saying, why do the AT guys get slammed?
Go autoX and show them what you got. I got an auto Z3 2.5i and I autoX it and track it. The auto shifts up when I don't want it to and slows me down sometimes but I am not the slowest car in the class. I might be the only auto tranny car in the group but I beat plenty of stick drivers. I am self claimingly athletic and have lightening quick responses, so I have no doubt I will be one of the better ones with the stick shift when I buy a manual tranny car on my next purchase. But I will keep the auto Z3 as a commuter.

Don't sweat it man....plenty of people feel the same way you do. Most don't let it bother them.
Some folks are "surprised" it's made in auto because the majority of the popular performance japanese cars built right now don't come in auto. (e.g. S2000, Evo, Sti, Wrx, RSX type-S etc..) no big deal.

Love, Peace and Chicken grease.
yeah. i never had that happen so far with my Z, but plenty of times with my
miata. albeit older autos were indeed sluggish. but newer technology in my
opinion puts them head to head with manuals. some of newer systems such
as the smgII found in m3, etc. can swap gears in and out faster than any of
us ever could. simply depends on the technology being used.
We had the same debates on the miata forums (manual vs auto) and no doubt
we will keep having them until all cars are hybrid autos.
It's all about preference. I love manuals and i love auto's in manual mode. Just
depends on what makes sense for your situation. My auto spends 99% of its
time in manual mode with TCS turned off. But having driven 6spd manuals and
autos, I can say they both have their strengths and weaknesses. But it's your
car, so who cares what some weirdo stranger on the street thinks anyway.

SMG is not auto
SMG doesnt use torque converter
SMG is another level of engineering...
You cant say F1 drivers all are pussies cuz they drive with Sequential gearbox
