I just installed the IMR ground kit and when I went to replace the strut tower brace I noticed that the adjuster was loose and that the wear marks for the bolts were not lining up on the adj side. Does anyone know the proper method to mount and adjust the strut brace so that I do not mess up my car? Thank you.

 

I've never taken mine off, but I heard its hard to put back on. It may just take brute force, so you may need an extra person to line it up properly.

 

When i worked on my engine i took it off, it was kinda of hard to get it back on but basically just common sense.... you hvae to line up both sides... then i had to end up wiggling it around for a little bit and like you said "brute force" haha i got a little mad and pushed it down hard and it was kind of 1/2 on... then wiggled it some more.. and got it.. those clips are a pain in the *** to get around but you have to get around them to put it on. (sorry i jumped around a little but thats how i got mine on)

 

Check the service guide. It will explain about that large nut you need to turn in order to shorten it up to install. It might not seem like it helps but i was able to put mine back on without any problems. You should be able to find someone that has the manual hosted on a page.

 

do you happen to know the size of the nut offhand?

 

1. Mark both sides of the center nut with a dot of anti-tamper paint (red fingernail polish works well). Allow to dry.

2. Remove bolts from both sides. If you experience resistance removing the bolts, use the center nut to shorten or lengthen bar as required.

3. Remove bar.

4. Reinstall bar using same method as in #2. Adjust bar length so that the bolts move freely.

5. Return center nut to original position (match anti-tamper paint on nut to paint on threaded bar. Tighten all bolts.

 

Once you remove it, you're basically screwed if you didn't follow the Nissan prescribed procedure. They tell you to loosen both lock nuts then loosen the center nut about 1-3/4 turns. That should place the black dot "up". Then you can remove the bar.

Obviously, to replace you do the reverse.

I haven't seen anybody post a trick on how to redo it if you don't know how many turns you loosened it. Chances are, you don't remember how tight it originally felt so you won't be able to go by feel.
