hello guys this is like my 3rd time posting
but i have a couple of questions.
i have a 03' Z AT....
i let my friend drive it using the slap stick.
it was going really good until he put it into Drive. i freaked out.
i looked at the gages and it showed 3rd gear. is this normal ?
Also another question.
we where going pretty fast down the highway and i started to smell a burning smell ? kinda like plastic.
any one know what that smell is ?

I have that same smell, like a burning plastic or some thing. Just started about 2 days ago.... I can always smell it when I get out of the car. I checked under the hood for a plastic bag or something, but I didnt find anything.

your speed etc. for example if you were in manual mode in 3rd...and switched to 'D'...you might just end up in 4th.

This is correct; when you slide the shifter over to "manual" the dash will show the car in the gear the transmission last selected. You can then shift the tranny up or down. The computer will not allow a shift that will destroy the gearbox; if you try the shift will be disregarded. When you slide back to automatic mode the computer takes over again and hanldes the shifting.
