Coupe or Roadster??? Opinion needed
Roadsters/Convertibles don't typically have a "grey area" like other options. You either like them, or you don't ... they say that once you own a convertible, one of two things will happen:
(1) You will never ever want to have anything to do with one again.
... or ...
(2) You'll always want a removable lid on anything you drive from that point forward.

I'm biased, but I have to say the Roadster since there are way less of them around. Where's that Model's poll that shows the percentages of each model?
My roadster takes longer to clean, ie top, leather, ect but I would not turn back. I am happy with my Roadster over the Coupe!

Coupe. One of the best lines of the Z is the slick roof line going to the back. If I were to get a convertible, I'd get a used porsche boxster. If you do get a ZR, please for the love of Pete, do not put a spoiler on it.
Roadster all the way.
I much more fun. You will not regret it.
I use to have coupe and now I have Roadster.
For about a month, I had both coupe and roadster at the same time.
Once again, Roadster is much more fun and exciting especially with top down.
As for Boxter, yes you can get a Boxter for about $15k more and $20K more for Boxters S.
I personally don't want to pay $20K more for tad more performace and pay for high maintenance.
Porsche are very expensive to maintain. My friend has Carrera and he always whines about it.
Don't get me wrong, I think Boxter is a great car but I think its little over priced and expensive to maintain.

PERSONALLY, If I could trade my coupe for a roadster? (even without price adjustments??) NO way...
I can see the appeal of a convertible, I've always loved roadsters and converts (had some in the family), but not for this car.
Reason being:
1.) You lose one of the Z's most distinctive design characteristics (that sexy roofline/ profile) This is one of my favorite parts of the Z. The roadster tends to overstate the roundness of that rear-end.
2.) ZR's have no hardtop, not even a removable one. You don't see too many Roadsters at track events. (Something I will eventually do with my car) leading to number 3...
3.) Weight, structural rigidity and overall safety of the coupe in a grassroots sporting event. My base coupe Z at roughly 3,185 lb's is already considered a porker. I can't imagine putting a roadster on a diet.
4.) In my experiences, the RAG top on a vert ages quicker than the car. Cleaning takes a few extra steps....fading is inevitable.
5.) A minor reason, but sound acoustics for a stereo can be easily tuned in an enclosed space without much environmental interference leaking through the ragtop.
Once again, I can't deny the appeal of a convertible but those are my honest reasons.

I agree that the roofline on the coupe looks much nicer; however, I also think that the roadster looks awesome as long as the top is down ... sure ... it looks a little 'odd' with the top up ... but ... uhm ... why would you have the top up? This also takes care of your fading problem ...

I guess this is why they make them both ... to keep us all happy ...
fwiw, it also depends on where you live. There are a lot of ZR's around here ... but, in general, there are a lot of convertibles period ...

Depends on what you buy the car for. If you want to track your car, definitely a coupe. If you just want to cruise around with the wind in your hair, roadster it is. I prefer the roadster because I live in Florida. We don't have to worry about it snowing or getting really cold. So I guess you just have to balance out your intentions for getting the car, and location as well. But in the end, it's still a Z, and that's what's important. Good luck on your choice, and let us know what you pick!!

My advice: If you've always wanted convertible, go for it with the 350z roadster. I think everyone should have a convertible once in their lifetime. There's nothing like driving without a roof

I have first had experiance with both cars.
Like I mentioned before, I use to own Coupe for about 10 months before Nissan took/bought the car back.
I had both Coupe & Roadster at the same time for about a month. Everytime I woke up in the morning to go to work, I had a choose what car I was going to drive for the day.
If I were to buy a Z again, I would definitely go Roadster. NO QUESTION ABOUT.
The only thing I don't like about Roadster is the trunk space. You think Coupe has little truck space, wait until you see Roadsters truck.
Other than that its a great car.
