So what does it have if it doesn't have a limited slip? It isn't a locker is it?

it doesnt have anything, lmao, so if you drop it one wheel will most likly spin, while the other has its thumb up its butt \

if your thinking about buying a Z id go for the next model up. the enthusiast. it comes with everything the base has plus : traction control , LSD, cruise control, and aluminum pedals along with some steering wheel bottons and auto dimming rear view mirrior...

The base model probably has an open differential. Not locking.

Advantages: Inside wheel in turn will turn slower than outside wheel, which will help bring the rear end around.
Disadvantages: Both wheels get the same amount of torque. So if one wheel is spinning it will continue to spin and the other wheel that has traction will not receive any additional torque (unlike a limited slip where some torque would be transfered from the spinning wheel to the wheel with traction).

The 06 base has really bridged the gap. It has all the great features of the other models without alot of the extras some people don't want.

Throw on an aftermarket LSD which will be better then OEM anyway, and you have yourself a helluva car. Well, as long as you can live without the cruise control.

Heh yea oversteer on a BASE Z can be interesting. I remember when I first bought the Z I didn't even know the model differences I went to do a power U turn and ended up understeering nearly off the road (nobody around)

That's when I learned my car had no LSD!

I never had a rear wheel drive car before, and I didnt know to much about LSD's at the time when I first got my car, all I knew is if I wanted to, I could spin both tires off the line, and when I wanted to kick the tail end out and drift some, it was easy, lol....My 1/4 mile and street races dont suffer, but who knows, they could be better with an LSD (probably will go nismo)!

After I pay my Z off, some serious modding is going to begin, I have spent enough to get my car looking and feeling good, it will hold me over until the end of this year, or early next year when title is in, MY NAME

+1...i have the base model and it's a great car...there are enough amenities and everything...the rest of the stuff is nice to have, but you don't need it by any means...the price can't be beat, so if you're going to mod it, get the base...otherwise maybe think about the enthusiast...IMHO, you should get the base and put 20's on it and drop in a TT, but that's just me

yea the base can also spank higher end models due to weight. Often base times are better then stock higher end counter parts. ANd of coure bases are chosen to mod becasue the stock vlsd in the Z isnt performance driven at all. Thats where kaaz nismo and other companies come in. No one with a tracked Z would keep the stock vlsd its just not suited for tracking. Or i should say isnt optimized.

So which one of the aftermarket LSD's is the best one to go with? Any negatives with an aftermarked LSD?

Get the enthusiast or above. The HID headlights almost make the price difference alone.

Forget about retrofitting cruise control into a base.

LOL it doesn't have light up vanity mirrors...

Not a big deal, but even an Accord has that.

For 2006 all headlights are the same.

I bought my 7000K's installed (removing bumper, doing wiring) for $530, and people give me compliments all the time, they look so good....I don't drive long distances so cruise control wasnt neccesary to me, and I think my 05 has vanity mirrors, there are big lights on both side and its a long peice of glass in the middle....dunno, I don't wear make up so....

Want to start a list of things the accord, doesnt have compared to a Z?

Base is a good buy if you are a modder, enthusiast is a good buy too, but there are things that I didnt need or want on it, and those things just add weight. I like to keep things simple, if I want something added to it, I want it to be something I pick out, I want a flip dvd screen with Navigation, I like my cubby hole for storage, the Z doesnt have alot of extra room like that!

I've been reading quite a bit about the Aftermarket LSD's and how noisy they are. Now I'm really concerned. Is the OEM LSD available. How exactly does the LSD impact performance? Does it help with quicker times?
