Default 05 Z vs. 2000 Vette.......

Trying to decide whether to trade in the Z for a great deal on a low mileage 2000 Vette, anyone have one of those year Vette's or have driven the Z and the Vette? I would like some pros and cons before a serious commitment....please discuss, thanks.....

eh...
Vette is an american car... VS Z which is japanese car
Reliability? Z
Userfriendliness? Z
Gas usage? Z
Power? Vette by a mile and a half
Handling? Coin Toss??? On a short course Z wins, on a course with long open straights vette dominates.
Tunability? Vette for power, Z for show
Long term satisfaction? Z
Short term satisfaction? Vette

---->ALL INFORMATION IS IMHO<----

I would only get a 2003+ vette, that's if I was going for performance only. The 03+ have a hp bump compared to the older ones.

too many vettes on the road esp. in texas.
I drove an auto 03 conv. vette, it feels faster than any stock 350z, but is very close in performance. The ride of the vette was very fun, and i wanted to mash the gas more and more.
if you owned both cars, you would clearly agree that they are very close in straight line performance, the vette being more dominant on the highway, you already have the Z, so keep it, and make the most of it unless your going for a z06.

DZ I have owned both Currently the Z is my ride. The Corvette is a great ride. Truth be told it really looks like this.

Reliability? Z wins
Userfriendliness? Vettte wins
Gas usage? Vette wins
Power? Vette wins
Handling? Coin Toss??? Z has a slight edge
Tunability? Coin Toss????
Long term satisfaction? Up to you
Short term satisfaction? Up to you

You really cant go wrong with it. I got rid of my Vette because I had high miles, and started to have problems. The Dealers would always hit you with the Corvette Tax. The Z is built with quality in mind, but the vette is not far off. It gets a bad rep, but it is a solid performance car. It is like the Z- the only logical buy for the money in its class! It really is a different experience (not better but different). I had about the same amount of mods on my vette as my Z- (minus headers), and here was the outcome. The Vette put down 292hp at the wheels, and my Z put down 260hp at the wheels (dyno'd the Z yesterday). No big power adds just bolt ons., and this was on the same dyno. The Z revs faster and has a broad torque band. The Vette revs slower with a heavy torque band, but you get most of it past 3500 rpms (LS1 pulls hard up top). They both are great cars, and I love them both. You cant go wrong with either. There are some Vette guys here that will give you some advice as well. This was just my experience with them both. The two I vettes I owned were 92 C4 Lt1 and 00 C5 LS1.

P.S. If you buy the Vette you will still have to fight with the M3 Guys on the Corvette Forum...

I agree keep the Z unless you can swing for the new 06 ZO6. The new Z06 is awesome, 7.0 WOW, but at 62K it should be!

Do you mean that the Vette uses less gas than the Z? Or do you mean more??

i think in top gear, the corvette is barely above idle when it's going 65-70 mph...highway mpg, it's way better i think...city, probably worse, 'cause of the v8

The Vette is better on gas. In the city it is about the same as the Z unless you are getting on it all the time. On the Hwy you will get 30-31 mpg.

Default vette vs Z

I drove a 98` hardtop vette a couple months before the Z. Tried it out for a 10 mile test drive. The results:

Power - vette by a wide margin. 0-60 can of course be close, but by 100 the vette is many carlengths ahead. Torque is huge. Car was a wild ride.

Handling - hard to say. Vette felt long/big and a bit unwieldy. Great grip though. Similar handling prowess with different strengths ( Z rigidity, nimbleness vs vette`s grip).

Quality - the vette seemed a little less solid. Clunkier/longer throws in the gearbox, etc.

Vette is a wilder ride, the Z was my choice.

Price - vette is a lot more year to year.

BTW on mpg - I`d take the Z. Mine is always above 27mpg mixed, and despite the vette`s tall top gear, it must suck gas horribly under anything over 1/3 throttle and 2k rpm.

A stock 350 is not close in straight line to a stock C5,twist and turns yes but straightline no way.

My buddy has a 2000 FRC vette with intake and exhaust. We ran from about 50mph and he put a hurtin' on me! I did not get to drive it through any curves, bt it felt pretty solid.

If I had an 03+ Z I wouldnt trade for a 00 anything, no matter how well maintained low miles it has, but that is my opinion. And honestly, I think the Performance is the only thing the vette has going for it, I see 2000 vette's all the time, and they are not impressive anymore. The only Vettes in that body style that look good are Black, lowered Z06's....I'm sure you can make a 00 C5 look pretty good, lowered on some nice rims, but the corvette is a corvette, and to have to deal with that interior (not saying ours is the best) everyday is something that I could just not do, I have thought about getting a 00+ Z06 in black, they sound killer, are quick as hell, and look pretty good on the exterior, but the interior really bugs me, to the point of not getting one, because honestly I would have bought one over my car if its interior was different, **** everyone probably would....lol, I see about 3 black Z06's around here, all driven by different people, I didnt want to be #4.

Some guy lost to a Z06 in a race, he felt bad, and said his car did too, Ill do for you what I did for him.

But really, that is just my opinion, if you dont have a problem with the interior, and dont like the Z anymore, get it!

If you can pick up a new Z06 for 62K please let me know. MSRP is approx. 66K then add options and tax and you will be near 75K.

Well, the guy I talked to is a good way away from me. I have to transport the thing to Texas, then get a daler to buy it(or the other way around) and then trade my car in on it. I always wanted one and this one is pretty clean I have to say. It has the Indy exhaust and chrome rims, along with zinc rotors(slotted and drilled). All is can say is WOW! I can't wait to get it and the insurance is waaaay cheaper than my Z to boot! I'm supposed to find out final numbers on it tomorrow so we'll see what happens. I really appreciate the help and if anyone has any other advice that would be great. BTW, how long would it take for a service to get the thing from NY to TX??

A minor bolt on Z can beat a stock base c5.... How ever in high end the c5 will pull ahead for instance 4th gear rolls. I never lost to one up till 110mph after that i was it is gas tank. Thats where there v-8 kicks in.

The Vette is the Plastic Fantastic. Go ahead, Plastic Man, get a plastic car. There's no quality in that. If you want the performance edge, the Vette can't be beat for the money. But for a proper balance of style & speed, the Z wins hands down. Besides, the C5 is yesterday's model. It's old news. You might want to get a pull-out stereo with that old car, too.
