Default Pitted glass anyone?

I have had my 04 Touring "Z" for 2yrs & 11 days..I have 10756 miles on it & the front windshield is horrible It has so many little pitts, it looks like it's dirty, when it's NOT I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem as well? I know it's going to happen, just like front bumper & hood take a toll out there on the roads as well, but I have never had a car, so new, accumulate so many...SO FAST! I drive in the same area & manner as all the others? Rocks SUCK

I have quite a few little pits... It's annoying as heck but a few coats of rain-x makes it less noticable.

I have three that I can account for, last summer driving on the 294-94 Toll Way some A hole in front of me (I was in the midle lane) just before he exited I saw him flip out a hand full of change and one of those coins hit my windshield hard, by the time it happened this M F was up the ramp and no way for me to turn around. to this day I still ask myself why are people that way??? it furiates me everytime I think of it.. the other two chips are very minor, hard to see...

04' 13,500 miles. Not a single pit or scratch in the windsheild. It gets no freeway driving. My Murano is mainly driven on the freeway and is nothing but a big rock pit.

My windshield is pitted also (to match the bumper). I used to do alot of commuting on a major truck route. I can keep the windshied looking almost invisible, but when the angle of the sun is just right it brings out the thousands of needlepoints. I think I'm the only one that knows it's there though.

When its time for a replacement windshield... does anybody know of a certain brand or type of windshield that is much stonger against this type of needlepoint pitting? I'm guessing all of us who have it (looks like sparkling diamonds when the sun hits it at just the right angle) are probably speeders or freeway roadwarriors.

So far all the 350 Z windshields seem to be prone to chipping or cracking. I've already replaced my 04 windshield bought in January of 04 and my new windshield has accumulated a few new pits, but i drive at high speeds, triple digits in the canyons.

Yikes! You should change your screen name to Kamikaze, because that's suicide and homocide at the same time. Triple digits, I hope those are KPH. I hope you are a professional driver on a closed course.

I think the whole car just chips all over like no other i've seen before, windshield to paint...even my driverside window has a mean chip on it...and I hardly drive my car (I have 8,000 miles on it), and no, I don't drive fast (yeah yeah, so what)

I got my windshield replaced with original 350Z windshield replaced due to 3 chips after only about 5000 miles of driving. Cost was about $325. Aftermarket ones are about $200 or so installed.

I am on my second windshield - and it has several small pits already.

It has to be due to all the gravel on the road and the lousy *%* trucks without anti sail flaps.

Also have several small scratches in hood and nicks in front bumper from gravel.

Have Mazda with same problems- so I do not think it is the paint or windshield - I Think it is just North Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee roads with all the gravel!!!

I tend to crack a windshield each year, about the time the pits get noticeable I hit something big enough to break the windshield. Doesn't matter which car, they all break...

I believe the OEM windshield is made by Pilkington.

I've got several pits in my windshield, which was most noticable today as I was driving down the highway into the sun. Funny that someone would post this..since I was pondering what it could cost to get a new one. As was said by others...my paint looks like crap as well...so I'll probably just wait till I get the car paid off and get some new glass when I get it painted (followed soon after by a clear bra install).

Speaking of the clear bra....you know that in pro racing, they put a film over their windshields to keep the window from getting messed up during the race. You usually see these getting ripped off about half way through during one of the pit stops. I wonder if you could get that done for a street car. Let that puppy take the rocks and when it gets bad....rip it off and get another.
