Default The uh.. air smells

Sometimes, the air coming out of the vents just plain smells funny. I don't know how to describe it, but it's always the same smell. It goes away for awhile, then comes back, etc. Anyone else have this problem?

I've noticed this too and wanted to make a thread about it. It only seems to happen on mine when the recirculation is turned off. In other words when fresh air is used.

It is not the smell of the outside air. It's always the exact same smell. It sucks because now it's cool enough to not need the ac but the I can't stand the smell and our stupid ac system won't let you use the fan in recirculation mode without turning the ac on.

Hey Guys,
Keep in mind when you have the car's air on recirculation it is taking the air from the floor of the vehicle close to the floor mats. 9 times out of 10 it is the car's floor mats that is causing the bad smell. The floor mats hold a lot of odors, and really should be changed every year or two. They also hold a lot of moisture, and can developed a kind of mildew smell, or stale smell over time. Also buy some Febreez from your local store and give them a couple sprays every week...do this with the air on, and in recirc this will also help with the condensation smell in the cars inside air ducts.

Seriously... put one of those fabric softener dryer sheets under each of your seats and the smell will go a away. Change them out every couple of weeks.

If it persists, you may have some mildew in the vents caused by running the re-circ too often and not allowing fresh air to dry out the vents. Spray some Ozium {sp?} (small bottle of air freshener in a white/blue container) or some other an anti-bacterial spray into the vents.

Cheers, Ted

1. Did you have a new exhaust installed?

2. Do you get this smell everytime you do spirited driving, like flooring it all the way to redline from 1st gear to 3rd gear?

Spray some lysol disinfectant in your cowling while the a/c is on fresh air, this will eliminate the mildew and smell fresh again. This is caused by small debri from leave, needles etc thats decaying inside the cowling.

Between the hood and the glass. It what the wipers project from. Open your hood and you will see were it is grill pattern on the plastic that seals the windshield. This is the fresh air intake for the cabin. Sorry I have no pics.

I have this wacky smell too and I have done everything I can think of to get it to go away. I only get it when I first turn the air on and it smells like a sweaty fat man that hasn't showered in a few days. I get it with the recirc on and off, doesn't matter which. It's much less noticable with the heat on but it is still there. I was thinking perhaps it was some kind of filter that was rotting or something. Any help with this one would make me a very happy man. I know it's nothing inside the car because I clean it like a mad man every week and I steam clean the cars interior at the end of every month but the smell from the vents just continues. I was going to make a thread about this when I first joined this forum but I wasn't sure if i was the only one that had this problem or not...
