M Shaped Brace Under Car... Do Without It?

Ok, well i took off the M brace tonight. The brace itself weighed 9.5lbs, along with the bolts and aerodynamic plastic covers and their screws and nuts the total weight loss equates to 10lbs. HOWEVER, the handling of the car does noticably decrease. The back end gets loose alot easyer, i had no problem throwing the back end loose at 3500rpm in 3rd gear exiting turns and the car as a whole felt sloppyer. As much of a weight ***** as i am, after driving the car with the brace taken off i decided to put it back on. After getting under the car and actually taking it apart it appears that the brace actually holds and or stabalizes some of the lower suspension geometry to the center of the car. Also as frequently as i do go above 100mph taking the aerodynamic plates off also makes me think that the 10lbs might not be worth the loss of the very high speed acceleration. None of the bolts are really that tight, when removing the brace one would not think that it has much purpse other than maybe as a skid plate. But upon a before removal-after removal-after re-install test drive scenario there is definately a large difference in rear end stability under throttle. Hope this helps everyone considering this, the entire process took me just under 2 hours to complete so if you do feel that you want to try it for yourself it wont take your whole day. Gotta give props to the Nissan engineers on this one for doing things i just dont understand to make our cars work so perfectly.

Thanks rbfd, the other day I wrapped the exhaust that was closest to the m-brace and wedged as much header wrap I could get in between there but tonight the rattle came back. Im gonna try the spacer route. Will all i need is just four spacers for these bolts?

Dude I'm crying that so damn funny!

It's not an "M". It's a "W". Says so right here:

I do wonder if the part IS still available though since you couldn't find it on courtesyparts.com. If that's the case, you might want to check with a few of the Nissan yards up in Rancho Cordova, CA. I would tend to believe that you can probably hook up with a rust free piece from one of them. Since it's not really a visible part, a few scuffs here and there aren't gonna kill you.

This isn't an endorsement of the Nissan yards since I have no experience with them but I did at one time source some hard parts (my old Volvos and Bimmers) from one of the many marque-specific yards up there. They're not PnPs...they pull everything and catalog the stuff they have so it's pretty simple.
