I sell Nissans the reason they ax the performance is it didn't one. the only difference is you get VDC two. They had to make room for the GT three. It's all about money.

There's talk of an LS2 Solstice in the works... that would be a monster. I think now that the camaro is gone, and the vette has been bumped up another level in performance, it would fit right in.

Never said no one else could drive well. I was just making a point that you better be a damn good driver if you expect to compete with an LS1 with a Z that has just a few bolt-ons.

Can you guys believe I bought my 350Z to keep my Fbody in good shape as a weekend warrior? The 350Z replaces my old 300ZX Turbo AE which had the duty prior to the 350Z. Man, if I had to choose between the Formula and the 350Z it would be tough. But, to be honest ..... for the street it would probably be the Z. The Z has more than enough power, is a newer/fresher design, and the Formula is a little large for some in town situations.

Thank God I do not have to make that choice.

Old Z

New Z

Formula

Well, you can already get an LS2 Solstice from Mallett.

Yeah... The LT1 engine is a torque monster if that car hooks then your dead... back to the first poster, the LS1 is not as torquey downlow but makes up for it closer in the midrange. All in all it is a KIller motor and underated by alot of import enthusiasts. Your best bet is to take him out in da twisties...

They dont have 300whp. More like in the 280 area. Friend of mine has one and he is auto though. They are still def faster than our Zs though.

According to the roommate (who ownes one) an SS usually dynos around 300-310. As was mentioned before, the engines were underrated from the factory. The true figure at the crank is closer to 350. Look at the '04 GTO, same engine, and it was advertised as a 350 hp car.

The camaro ss was built for straight line speed. The Z was built for the twisties.
Each car will out perform the other in what it excells in.

Thumbs up

I was rolling on 1-40 in North Carolina about 3 weeks ago and had an encounter with a Newer Black Camaro SS with black tint. It was late at night with no traffic on the road. I had my fiance (who hates my driving) and a car packed with x-mas gifts. I was rolling at 70 mph in my 2005 G35 coupe and he pulled up next to me and sat next to my door for about 1 mile. I looked over at my fiance and told her to suck it up and hang on.

I figured that I would get smoked but I couldn't refuse the race. I dropped the car into 3rd gear and we both took off. I rip through 3rd, rip though 4th and as we are pulling through 5th at 140mph I looked over and to my suprise he was right at my door. We dropped down to 50mph and we both dropped our windows. The guys says, "Holy $hit, what do you have in that thing?!" I said, "Just a CAI." He threw his hands up and we parted our ways.

I was impressed and I don't really know how I stayed right with him. I thought that I was going to get crushed!

that's the exact opposite from my experience. i was side by side with a G35 coupe at a red light at night in my Z, open road ahead. SS camaro behind me. I put a few cars on the G and the camaro just passes him and then passes me @ about 85 ish like I was standing still. He just kept pulling and i was flooring it. It's kind of what I expected and would still rather have My Z. But they are def fast cars in a different class than the Z.

I checked my photos from Summit Point, VW, but didn't see a Camaro.

I also checked my autocross photos, but couldn't find a Camaro.

Maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

more then likely he was driving an auto, stuck in overdrive. i had a 98 SS auto, same crap would happen to me all the time racing from a roll, floor it, no down shift still in overdrive. sucked.

Yeah, I was about to mention that. I watched some races on Speedtv and the camaros competed with the evos and STIs for the top spot. Meanwhile the 350s were no where to be seen.

In SCCA T2 you are allowed minimal mods. A 350z would have nismo springs and bars. Here's what Scott Webb, a member on here mentioned about that level of SCCA

at the minimum to make an F-body handle you would be looking at bushings all around, Rear lower control arms, sub frames, springs, and shocks... Also any F-body owner know about the wonderful brakes the cars were blessed with LOL, you go through rotors faster than brake pads and thats just on street duty...

Yeah - F-bodies were torque ******. RIP

I'm glad I still own one to get my torque thrill with.

I was driving my bird today... The difference in the low end is nice.
1st to 50 shift to 4th cruise. I was just cruisin around and leaving everything behind.

Oh but when it comes to gas mileage around town, parking and taking the wife out. The Z is just pure artistry in motion. I love my Z !!!!

Just get, believe it or not, Autozone cheap china rotors for 39.95 for the fronts. Buy some Hawk pads and your set. I warped the heck of of two factory sets then installed these. No more warping rotors.

I have done what you suggest to my car. Your right night and day.
Let me add TB and Traclink to the list. The Traclink was the best handling mod I made to the car. You hit the gas in a corner and it feels like the car is being pulled down into the corner from the center. That is because it is. There is a tie point into the rear seat floor pans that make one heck of a difference.

I am pretty sure after I mod the 350Z a bit it will out handle the Firebird. But, for now the Bird is really, really, close to the 350Z in terms of handling. It's just feel a little heavier and a little wider. But, that torque comes in handy.
