Default Rev indicater

Hey everyone this is my first time to have a high performance car. Alright to the question... The rev indicator what should it be set at? does it really matter? does it improve the performance of the car? Also do all Z have such short gears? I'm hitting over 3500 rpms I’m 6th gear going 85 90 mph. Many thanks for the help in advised. Don’t know if it matters but its a 2006.

Thanks again,
CP

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new 350Z.

The REV setting and REV light do nothing: the light is just a warning. On the street, set the light to wherever you feel comfortable. At the dragstrip, the setting is a bit more complicated.

i just set mine at 6K so it will start to flash once you have reached 6k and you can prepare to shift to the next gear. Its kinda useless. The gears are normal. Most cars are at 3k rpms doin 80mph in 6th. Hope you enjoy the Z.

If you'd like, since you're breaking in your car, you could set it to 4000 rpms.

But if it bugs you to have that thing flashing everytime you feel you need to shift, set up somewhere super-high so you won't ever have to see it.

The rev limiter actually starts blinking a few hundred rpms before whatever you set it at. E.g. , set it at 6000 rpms and it'll start blinking at 5600-700rpms or so.

That is just a shift light basically.. it affects nothing, and it is not accurate what so ever, a stock 287 hp engine really readlines at about 6400... get the technosquare reflash.

I keep mine set at 5600 just so I have about a 1000 rpm margin of safety. I don't like to bounce off the rev limiter.
