Hi! i need some input from everyone here
hi, im a 15 year old turning 16 in a few months, and for my first vehicle my dad picked out the 350z which i have completely fallen in love with, we've been to the dealer's to check it out up close and personal, however my dad is reluctant to buy the 2003 in the mindset that the 2004 will only be better and i dont get my liscence until sept anyways, but i heard nissan will not change much from the 2003 and 2004 models and its going to be VERY hard to even get the Z you really want and in any reasonable amount of time due to HUGE backorder and too much demand and not enough supply. ... i jsut want to know if the waiting till 2004 model is a good idea and how far in advance to order and how long generally it'd take to arrive? thanks guys ... new and proud zed head
FLAME!
Just kidding
Wait 'till 2004.
If you have trouble getting a 2004 in September then you could always buy whatever 2003 is around. They will at least have some issues, no matter how small, worked out by then.
BTW, ask your dad if he'll buy me one too.

"Son, for your first car as a licensed driver, how 'bout I get you a nice reliable used car? No? okay how about a new 350Z?"...
. Must be nice, congrats anyway

My sense from this board is that there is not a "back order" problem with the Zzzzzzzzz. Initial demand rush is over.
I suppose it could change come spring but no doubt it.
I'd just keep saying "yes, Dad" & then go thank the Lord each night for being born in your family!! LOL!

The youth of today are totally spoiled.
When I was 15 I had to repair a non-working car so that I could drive it when I was 16.
350Z for first car at 16?
Its a shame that most people never learn value. Something given hasn't any.

eh, Ill give an opinion from a 19year old that has driven since he was 15, and got his first car handed to him when he was 16, as well as the Z paid for when I was 19.
I hope you dad reads this, but even if he doesnt you know what I say is true, there is a VERY good chance you are going to kill yourself. Im POSITIVE I would have. I had a 7000lb truck and still managed to pull some crazy stupid stunts in that, if I had a Z? oh **** itd be messy. and I dont think it was just me, cause I was one of the more responsible people, even with all this crazy **** I never hit anything, but all my friends did.
anyway, not like my opinion matters, but I think 287hp rwd is WAY too much car for someone to start out with. not to be hating on you, I dont even know you, but if your anything like me or anyone else I know, the Z is not a car for beginners. personally Id start with something a bit weaker(and larger, for other reasons, hauling people, stuff, kegs, ect) then grabbing a Z for you 18th birthday. save money till then and deck that bad boy out to the hilt when it arrives.
anyway, thats my 2 cents.
to answer your question, nothings gonna change cept maybe some new colors, any other changes would be fixes, which they just incorporate into the car as they come out. not much on the car needs to be "changed", maybe a new bose system but HIGHLY unlikely.

I am just trying to prove the point that their are two sides
First, let me say that I think it is best to wait as long as possible so you can get the latest updates to the car (and perhaps find some cool new colors).
Now, back to this thing we call "value":
Another thing about value is that it can be totally subjective.
For a really rich dude, a 350Z might not have significant value. It doens't mean that same person doesn't value a 911TT or 360 Modena, just that to them the Z would be like a McDonald's dinner is to us. Also, I think everyone here would value a Ferrari even if they didn't have to pay for it themselves. For me, the value of something isn't determined by the process of procuring it, but instead by the process of using it. But would it be fair for me to say that no one on this board (except for those who go to the track) value their Z?
I've found that there are certain types of people who feel that money has inherent value, and then there are those who feel that money is only valuable because of what you can do with it. So these different types of people judge value by different criteria.
Another factor is that people are different in how they learn. Just because some only learn value by fixing up their own vehicle, does not mean that others can't learn about value in a different way (having a relative or parent or even a pet die will surely give someone a different perspective about what is valuable).
I guess my point is, BrianZ please don't be so judgemental about someone you don't know anything about.
Thanks,
D'oh!

"Give a person food, they eat for one meal. Teach them how to farm, they eat for life." Anyone know if that applies to 16-year olds being handed brand new sportscars that they didn't work for?

That may be. I just think it's hard to appreciate the full value of something if you don't really see what goes into it to make it happen. For example, which would you value more: (1) your mom buys a birthday cake for you at the bakery, (2) your mom makes a birthday cake for you in the kitchen, or (3) you help your mom make a birthday cake for you? You pay for your own car, car insurance, and upkeep, and you're going to appreciate having it more.

Man, you picked a bad analogy with the B-day cake. I have had more than a few b-days and I gotta tell you the cake I appreciated the most was made by Sanders (Saunders?) in Detroit.
I could have pounded the flour, raised the chickens for the eggs,
and processed the sugar cane and it STill would not be appreciated as much as the Sanders cakes.
Give the young guys a break. Getting a car from dad goes not mean the kid is relegated to the spoiled brat catagory.
PS: Anyone from Detroit? Is Sanders still in biz?

If dad's gonna buy you a Z for your first car why would you want to wait for a '04, order a track model now. It's not like any of the MINOR problems are going to cramp your style. I imagine there are other vehicles in the stable to use if the Z's laid up. Now another thought is: what's dad driving? Is he gonna occasionally grab the Z or does he have something better?

I think that is one of the most asinine things I have ever heard. My dad bought me a lot nice cars while I was in high school. Which taught me to very much so “Value” my 2700 Sq. ft house, my new 350z track, my lexus, supra TT and my college education which all I paid for. Just b/c you had drive a POS when you were 16, doesn't mean you have pessimistically judge someone. If you were offered one when you were 16, you wouldn't say “ no Dad just get me a POS when I am 15 so I can fix up, its going to teach me value”.
I am just trying to prove the point that their are two sides

Onto the subject, I'll bet you $5 that there will be no changes for 2004 models.
If you can get a track, definately get it.
