Default Blind Spots

Is it just me or is anyone else experiencing "blind spots" while driving? I've adjusted all the mirrors and the seat (constantly) but there still seems to be blind spots on both sides that I can't figure out. I'm ALWAYS feeling like I'm gonna side swipe someone.

Get a Broadway miror, and also a Spot mirror. Those work great.

Blind spots are not that great a problem if the side mirrors are aligned properly. It actually makes driving easier if you do not have to crane your neck 180degrees to turn to look during every lane change. My 280Z was like that when I bought it in 1978 and I learned (with difficulty) how to overcome the "problem". Once learned, life is good.

With properly adjusted side mirrors, you should not see the side of your car...maybe just a sliver. Here's a good test: when cruising on the highway, let someone pass you slowly on your left...there should be little or no gap in the time from when the other car passes off of your mirror and enters your peripheral vision while looking straight ahead. With things adjusted like this, even just a slight turn of your head when checking coupled with a quick glance at your mirror should help you to be sure the space alongside is clear.

Someone posted directions for setting the side mirrors that seem to work well.

Sitting in the driver's seat in your normal driving postion, lean to the left and put the side of your head against the driver's side window, adjust the left mirror so you can just see the side of the car. Lean your head approximately the same distance to the right and adjust the rigth hand mirror until you can just see the side of your car. You will not be able to see the sides of your car in the mirrors as you drive, but it is safe to assume they will remain where they should be without your constant attention.

When adjusted that way, the mirrors give you the coverage described by TCBZ.

I dunno, I really like looking down the flanks of the car. I'm used to it, it gives some reference point as to where and how far away the other cars are.

I have a Broadway on my Accord, maybe it's time for a transplant.

I agree...it's disconcerting at first when you don't see the side of your car. I tend to just leave a tiny sliver of the car in view...but definately do not devote a third of your mirror to the side of your car (attractive though it may be!)

I understand the comfort level you get from seeing the side of your car in the mirror. That was the way I was taught to set the mirrors too, but once you convince yourself that you do have the blind spots covered with the side mirrors you will feel quite a bit safer. You really can see the front bumper of the car on your left in the mirror just before it enters your peripheral vision.

Of course it was discomfort for first time, since everybody before was teaching me to use side mirrors to kind of triplicate central mirror. Once you use to it, you'll laugh at other people, wasting their mirrors to see what their don't need, and breaking their neck to see blind spots

TBCZ - on another note...

I LOVE the personalization (Photo) - What is that? Where did you get that? How do I do that? That is SWEET!!!!!!!!

Someone else was telling me about a FAIRLADYZ emblem...I'm new to these kinda' goodies.

Where do I find COOL stuff like this?

My avatar is just a photoshop I made from the 350Z logo on the rear deck. It's not real.

As far as finding emblems and such, I don't know too much about where to get that stuff. StrictlyZ.com might be a good place to start. The guy you want to talk to is Victor (VQracer). Just PM him and I'm sure he'll be able to help you find what you're after.
