Thumbs down 35th anniversary Ripoff???

Hi everyone,

Last memorial day weekend I purchased my 35th anniversary Z. As any of you who owns one knows, the five spoke (carwash unfriendly) rim set is it's most distinctive feature. My car included all the bells and whistles, and I've been very happy owning such a "fun-to-drive" toy. But I do have a gripe and I'm looking for answers to what I believe has been a scam pulled by Nissan:

The new 2006 models were initially introduced wearing new 5 spoke wheels with the usual square indentations. They were set back a little so the wheel didn't stick out so much as the 35th anniv. Well, I was driving past the Nissan dealer where I purchased the car the other day, and noticed a "white" 35th anniv. I then realized, "gee they didn't make the 35th in white". I stopped there to look the car over, and what I discovered is that it was a 2006 and they were selling them with the 35th anniv. rims, the most distinctive feature of a car that was supposed to have been designated as a limited edition. Well, so much for "limited". 35th rims go for $730 apiece, and now they appear to be installing them as standard equipment on the 2006's. The 35th rims are now shown in their newer catalogs and also on the Web.

I think this is an insult to 35th owners, and a very deceptive move on the part of Nissan, whether the rims are sold as an option or as standard equipment on the new models. Please tell me what your opinions are about this.

Thanx,

June H

its not a rip off.. they just upgraded the standard 6 speed mt... that means aside from the brakes and the staggered wheels size.. my 06 is the same as your 35th right? i think the 06 has a better plenum than the 35th as well, correct me if im wrong..

Yup, sux for 35th owners in that respect. Those are standard rims on all models now, except the Grand Touring (basically same equip. as 35th) and Track which both come with the new Forged Rays rims (likely the 5 spoke w/ indentations you saw before; they don't sit back, though, they are 18x9 in front and 19x10 rear with wider tires).

35th has the rev up 300HP motor with new lower plenum that '06 models have.

No. The '06 grille is different, and so is the headlight and taillight detailing. The '06 also has the added features on the steering column.

Yes, thanx, I forgot. My seats are Tan (more of a yellow tint) and black.

Hey, was that you? so kewl.. I was on the way to the Blue Sky with a friend. We tried to get into Marnicks, but they closed at 8 pm.

You will laugh. It is seldom that I see Z's on the road, and that night on the way home on 95, one with dealer plates (silver) got off in Westport. A second one (silver) followed me off onto Broad St. Geez! 3 silver Z's in one night!!! I felt like I was blessed! hehe!! Perhaps it is an omen, and I should think about getting one for myself.

It was nice seeing U2. Thanx for the acknowledgement. way kewl!!!!

Same thing happened to me. Brought my Z into the dealership last week for service and checked out the lot while I was waiting. I see five 06' Z roadsters with my wheels on them. I was like WTF, I thought the 06's were getting the wheels set back a little bit and with the small indentations on them? Oh well, I guess. I don't see too many Z's on the road out here but it sucks because I never saw a 35th, making me the only one around here that I ever see with my wheels, which was kinda cool. Now all the 06's I see are going to have my wheels .

Yeah, I agree with the gripe with the 35th's and the 06 models. The only exterior difference between them now are the bronze Z side insignias, head and tail lights. But the wheels were the most distinctive feature on the 35th.

Give it to Nissan for having no imagination...

No doubt that the made ten thousand too many 35th Anniversary wheels and were stuck with them ... so the make them standard issue and then get rid of them.

On my SB you can't hardly tell the "bronze" ring without looking hard under the right light.

Oh those damn dealers. Putting wheels on cars, then selling the cars. How low can one sink.

The wheels with the small indentions on them you are referring to are likely the 06 Track/Grand Touring wheels. They are wider/larger than the stock wheels (18x9 and 19x10). If I bought a 35th Anniversary I would be pissed to if the wheels that came on it became the standard wheels the next year. Get the Nismo wheels. They look better anyway.

Nice to see there are more chicks out here owning the Z.

Default Car Wash

Also to my Stratford ladies, do you know of any local car washes that hand wash? I kind of want to avoid automatic washers but it's a little cold for me to wash it myself, although I may have to. Let me know
