Default dumb shift **** question

hi..i just bought a silver 03 z from my friend and it's automatic. Being a noob to this car, i am just wondering...what are those + and - gears to the right of the D gear? I don't have the guts to try it out without knowing exactly what it is because that z is like a treasure to me. =] Please help me and if u can please teach me in detail as to how to use it and how to get off of it. thanks!

Sell the car immediately. You have no business owning a Z.

As an alternative, you might consider READING THE OWNER'S MANUAL.

That is a manual shift mode. Sort of like a manual transmission but without a clutch. + is up and - is down. Try it.

umm...
f*ck what these other losers told you...
here is what you do
it works like a manual clutchless shift... so basically you move the shift **** up it shifts up a gear and if you move the shift **** down the trans shifts down a gear...
you are driving an automatic with this tiptronic style shift is very useful if you go for a spirited driving and doesnt want to use the clutch during a daily commute or something like it...

go to the arcade and play some racing games.. last i recall "initial D" has the same thing.. (but in reverse). its the new shifting tech. called tiptronic. <think thtas how u spell it) basicly, you shift up or down (like manual) but saves you from the clutch. also you can ALWAYS switch back and forth from D to + -.. (simply by moving the shift **** left or right) last thing, the car can automaticly shift down to 1.. but it will not auto shift up..

ya you should really read the user's manual.

tiptronic is very popular now.. if you dont want to ruin your Z.. go rent a Mercedes or a Maxima or Altima and try it out on those

try letting your rpm go up to almost redline, then shift the tiptronic gear up one. let go of gas a LIL bit.. and ull feel a nice push.. iono if this is good or bad tho =P dont do this all the time.. its more of a fun thing once in awhile

a couple of mean responses here.

horse, it's never too late to start learning tiptronics. try practicing shifting at around 3,000 rpm. after you get the jist of it, you can move on to downshifting.
