Do you think the G35C will upstage the 350Z?
#3
I agree that the G35c is not a sports car but it will be sub 6.0 to sixty. The auto G35 sedan does 0-60 in 6.2 (August Motortrend) and with 20HP more than the sedan and probably less weight I am sure the manual coupe will be well under six seconds. The Z will of course be faster than the coupe and handle better, but for a sports coupe that is really quick considering the manual 330Ci is slower than the auto G35 sedan.

Is an M3 a sports car? Its faster than the 350Z and probably out handles it. Is it not a sports car just because it has a back seat? The Porsche 996 has a backseat. I think the line between a sports car and sports coupe can be very blurry and is truly in the eye of the beholder. If the G35c is offered as a convertible like the 350Z will be then what makes them different if they peform the same except for having a back seat? I think Infiniti's intention with the G35 Coupe was to make a more luxurious 350Z with a backseat and personally I believe they accomplished that. Of course the 350Z is more agressive and sporty, but I don't think they are ENTIRELY in different categories. I can easily see many people cross shopping the two.

Just think of the G35c as another model in the 350Z line up. They are basically the same car but the G35c will be a little more luxurious, have a little less HP, and be a little heavier (and/or have more flex). Not quite as good in terms of performance but pretty damn close. Depends on how bad you need a back seat.

Probably trying to cross market the same, essentially, car but to different market segment.
350Z - younger more style conscious
Infinity- more upscale, in their minds, buyer looking for status.
Don't mean anything against older 350Z buyers, I'm one of you, in 10 days I'll be 56. Young at heart though ... just like rocketscientist.

The Z will be a perennial legend in automotive history, and in that, Nissan has an eternal audience (perhaps a narrow, but HIGHLY focused audience, but eternal nonetheless).
The G35c has no history to draw upon, so I can envision their market share being composed of a lot of guys who are sick of their Lincoln Mark VIII's, like the cushy environment of the G35c, and who have probably never even heard of the Z car. (Which, quite frankly, is the way I prefer it. I think Nissan should have an entrance exam to pass before you're allowed to buy a Z. This car is a legend, and it would be nice to think that each buyer knows at least SOMETHING of it's legacy!)

yes the G35c will take away a lot of the limelight from the 350Z. But frankly im glad there will be another car that will make the 350z all the more rare.
The G35c has already upstaged the Z in many ways. Everywhere i go I hear about how elegant and beautiful the G35coupe is .. and when people talk about the Z the only thing i Hear is TT or S2000.

It's no doubt that you will hear people talk about the two cars in the same breath but, they are two different vehicles. The Z is a sports/performance car. While the G35c is a luxury coupe with a measure of performance, and this is what has to be considered when these two cars are talked about. I would be surprised if any automotive publication were to compare the two. I don't think is would make sense to. But, it doesn't matter to me if the G35c outshines the 350Z, the 350Z is what I want. A two seated bat out of hell!!!

I have a friend who cancelled the Z and switched over to G35c. I am thinking about it.
Do you guys think that the price will be similar for both cars? (350Z Track vs G35c Sports 6mt)
There is a post on freshalloy.com that list the G35c with 280hp. That's only 7hp less that the 350z. So, the performance will probably be similar right?

dejavu all over again
This topic has been beaten to death over the past two months.
It's simple The G is not a Z!
Besides the only thing that will be behind me are my golf clubs and a bunch of G-35's trying to keep up.

G35Cvs.350Z
The biggest difference between the two should be the wheelbase. The Z's is 104.3 inches; the G35 Sedan's is 112 inches; I expect the Coupe will be 108 inches maybe, because its main competitor is the 330ci Coupe which has a wheelbase of 107.7 or so.
All three Nissan/Infinitis use the same platform, the FM, or whatever it is called. They cut it down for the Z and I expect the G35C to be shortened too.

I am seriously considering dropping my 350Z order and persuing the G35c. I like the looks of the G35c, it has more functional area to use in the car. It DOES NOT have the strut brace to consume the storage area. The 350 Touring weighs in at about 3300 pounds already, so my hopes of a "tossable" car are defeated. The sedans have been turning 15.2's @ 92MPH at the drags, which is fairly good for an automatic. The 6m G35C should break into the 14's.
It looks like the G35C will have about 280 HP and yes it will be slower than the Z. I don't like the dash on the G35C, it's rather plain. The frame will be less ridged and flex a little more than the Z. I am hearing estimates that the 6M version won't hit the shores until Jan 03, and I'm allready tired of waiting!
My wife thinks I'm nuts as I change my mind between the M coupe, the Z and the G35c daily. One side of my brain tells me to go for the M coupe, it's faster and who cares if its a little harsh and uncomfortable to drive. The other side of my brain says; relax, smell the roses, you don't need to go fast all the time, be comfortable and get the G35c. The logical side of my brain says; the Z is fast enough and relatively comfortable, who cares about storage space anyway, just get the Z.
Decisions decisions decisions.
