i'm not that drastic when i do park. but i can understand why the driver would. i hate door dings too. i just always try to find a spot on the end somewhere and park as close as i can to the curb, if it has one.

Yup, I park like that all the time too. And I will continue to park like that because there are people out there that have no respect for others property! I was fortunate enough to get 2 dents in my door from parking straight (like you're suppose to) all before I was able to get my plates!!!

It's true, when you park like that people want to **** you off by parking close or keying you. Don't see why, but one day I found a note on my car. I was walking out when 2 kids were giggling walking away. I waited and confronted them when they came out, they were smartasses like I expected. I told them they were lucky they looked young or else they would get the point not to **** with other peoples car beaten into them.

Parking like that gets way too much attention and can easily **** off some people that don't have a care in the world in which case they'll damage your car because they'd think "Who the hell do you think you are parking like that? I'm gonna have to teach you a lesson." Not worth it IMO, I just park far away from people but I never take more than 1 spot.

Or somebody with a real gem of a bomber parallel parking an inch from your drivers door... Saw that last week! Hilarious.

I never take two spaces. I look for what I call "Executive" parking spaces, which on the end of a row, where I can tuck up to a curb leaving plenty of room for a car door to open next to me. (Then I run like hell to get what I need and get back!)

Yea, I wish I could do that too, but I pretty much know where all the "executive" parking spaces are at the places that I frequently go to.

+1 - However, I refrain from doing this cause I know some people think it is rude and will mess with you just cause. I do however park with my passenger door next to a curb area and tuck it in close. That way if some want to park next to me they shouldn't be opening there passenger side door generally if we are way out there. My car might get sprinkler action every once and a while but that's a lot better than a $700 dent from some inconsiderate person. I park way out like this because most people when they take someone to the store in their car generally park as close as they can get to the door. Humans are lazy by nature. Plus I really don't mind walking a bit. It's good for you. If it's a really tight parking lot and I know I'm going I'll take my Pathfinder. That still has managed to get a couple of door dings from disrespectful or careless people. However, it's a truck so it's not as big of a deal. But, heck it still bothers me because I worked hard to get that truck and plan on keeping it for 20 years. I hate the fact that I'll look at that dent for 18 years unless I pay a fortune to repaint that side to blend everything in. Grrrr. I mean I get less dents 4 wheeling than I do in the darn parking lots.

Take a look. She still looks good after 5 years of towing race cars, boats, dune running, snow, ice, 4WD trails and camping.

I love the fact that she has the heart of a Z. Unfortunately, I have to report my Z has more dents from others than this Pathfinder has and the Z is only two years old.

I don't have the ***** to take 2 spots, but I try to park next to the islands in the parking lot or curbs. at least one side of the car wont get damaged by dings. I personally think taking 2 spots is risking ur car to get keyed.

I used to park at an angle in the prelude still taking only one spot and that is perfectly legal. But you shouldn't ever take two spots that's disrespect and askes for trouble. But when I did park at an angle no other cars would park near me because either the front or the rear of my car would be too close to their cars. therefore isolating you =). Only do it in the back of the lot though.
