Angry Service engine Soon light

Ok im getting really annoyed right about now i have had my 03 Z for about 4 months and this is my 8th time i brought my car in because of this damn light. What is wrong with this car!!! Its sounds fine and everything . Are they not fixing the actual problem and automatically switching the light off with a hit of a button and telling me "ok Its done".

I'm going to get rid of this car soon.

Have they told you what is triggering the light?

+1? Go by Autozone and have the code pulled for free. Any mods on the car?

most common reason for the engine light to come on is faulty o2 sensors or a faulty Mass Air Flow Sensor...... aftermarket cold air intake can trigger engine light on.

blame the problem on a loose gas cap is their way of saying " tough luck, there's nothing wrong with your car,now go home."

If they're saying its the gas cap then its showing an EVAP leak. They can be hard to chase down but 8 times is pretty excessive. If I were you id do a quick visual check of all the vacuum lines under the hood.

Are you taking the gas cap off while the car is on? I think that will throw that code...I know some people leave the car running when they fill up.

Unforuntaly, he not. I'm a firefighter and I have to tell people all the time to turn off their car, stay by the pump, please don't sit back into the car, stop talking on thier cell phone, etc... etc.. etc... Sometime they get mad and sometimes they say thanks. The ones that get mad I just explain to them that I don't feel like blowing up today. Remember its not the gas that lights up but the vapors.

i heard women tend to get back inside their car during fillups alot.
i also notice that non-leather interior vehicles generate unwelcome statics.

BTW cell phone static, cannot make gas ignite. This was proven wrong on mythbusters. They put a cell phone in a sealed box with gasoline, and made calls ect, it cannot ignite, that is a myth. Cell phones do not produce any type of spark! When was the last time you were shocked on the phone, lol

I watched that showing and saw the test. I have also seen where cell phones have started fires. So I wouldn't risk losing my Z over a phone call.

i guess it all depends on the type of cell phones.
Mythbuster is a good show.... very informative. i like the one they busted the myth about driving with the tailgate down on a pick-up truck to save gas.

Ok back to the topic, I once got the "service engine light" on, went to the dealer told me it was the gas cap. Started being more carefull when tightening it. I got the problem again, so they ordered a new gas cap... problem solved.
