Z Screensaver in the package
I was wondering if anyone else noticed this when trying to run the 350Z screensaver.
After looking at the rest of the content on the CD, I went to the download section and downloaded the screensaver. After I installed it, I went to go check out the 'settings' of the screensaver and my personal firewall, ZoneAlarm, notified me that the screensaver was trying to contact a nissan server.
I blocked it, and of course the settings dialog wouldn't show up. I then activated the screensaver and again ZoneAlarm reported that the screensaver was trying to contact a nissan server.
So, I blocked it permanently. The screensaver works just fine without contacting their server. But I was kind of annoyed.
Was anyone else aware of that feature?

Feature?
Very interessting. Who knows what information it's sending. Could be as simple as "a person is using the Z screen saver". Could be more; could be nothing.
Someone will have to investigate to find out for sure.

I do get warned by ZoneAlarm that the screen saver wants to access the "local network". Not a problem for me but just in case you want to pass the word on to the programmers...

screensaver
Interesting. Well, I'll double check it tonight and make sure. I should be able to get a log of the ip address if it (the screensaver) really is trying to contact a server.
I assumed it was just trying to log usage of the screensaver. I doubt anyone at Nissan would be silly enough to do something more invasive.
Again, I will double check. Maybe I just got confused by a ZoneAlarm message.
The CD was pretty cool though. *grin*

Yeah, mine did the same thing. Naturally, after I told it to "remember this answer everytime I use this application" and check "No" ( to not allow access to the internet) it never prompted me again.
I wondered if it might be something that the "ScreenTime Media" ppl included in their software since it was used to create the screensaver. I also considered that they may not package that logo that pulls up when you do a "settings" on it. It may be hosted somewhere so they can change/edit logos and ads on the fly and the change is across the board for all users and has a single source of administration.
I don't know that may be way off, but that was the only thing I could see that might call out to the web...may need to check with the folks at smallgroupofpeople.com
who knows, I'm probably way off....brain doesn't work well since it is fried from Z anticipation

Just checked it :
ZoneAlarm has stopped 2003 Nissan 350 Z.scr from connecting to the Internet or your local network. No breach in your security has occurred. Your computer is safe. ZoneAlarm will not allow it access if you don't give it permission. What happened?
The IP address is 127.0.0.1 port:1275

127.0.0.1 is your local machines ip address, think of it as a loopback connection to your own computer. If you do a ping on 127.0.0.1 zone alarm will catch it and prove that its your own machine.
