Question Zs Getting Pulled Over?

hello guys (and gals) I am 16 (soon to be 17), now don't give me **** for it. I am not a ****in ricer. I was just wondering if you guys are getting pulled over for speeding. Like if the color of your car reflects whether or not you are getting pulled over frequently. I live in NJ so this may change it a bit. I want to go with a Le Mans Z with Burnt Orange interior but its not looking good right now because of how much cops would be looking at me. I am considering going with a Super Black with Burndt Orange interior. This would help me camoflauge. I am not talking about going 80mph in a 25mph zone. I mean going like five over. Average Driving. Please describe your experiences.

Default Police stop vs. car color

I actually created a poll to investigate this a while back. Please see here. It's out of date since there's many more Zs on the road now, and it's probably not very accurate, but it may give you some insight.

Thanks,

if you dont want to worry about getting pulled over for driving a sports car, go with the Maxima or a G35 sedan. Both come with the same engine and both are much less likely to be eyed by the cops.

Comes with the territory. Drive a "look at me" car, expect to get looked at!

they can only pull you over if your doing something wrong. become knowledgable on your states laws, IN GA you must be doing atleast 10 over the limit to get a speeding ticket. perhaps NJ has a similair law. anyway, I do 5 over all the time, no problems, but when you do 15+ over, it doesnt matter what car your driving, theyll take you out.

That's exactly what I'd say. Don't break the law and you won't get pulled over. I've seen and know too many people with the attitude that if they don't get caught, what they're doing isn't wrong. Don't take that attitude. The people I know who have that attitude are in jail or were once in jail.

At 16, you should be concentrating on being a responsible and skilled driver. Go to a racing school, if you want to learn the fun stuff and then keep it at the track.

If you're looking for people to coddle you with false promises and hope regarding breaking the law, you generally won't find it here. Many of us drive pretty fast and break the law at times, but I don't think you'll find too many who will condone it.

Just some friendly advice from an old man...

lol

Just drive no more than 5 over and no one should bother you. I've been driving 34 years and I never got stopped unless I deserved it.

The best advice I can give is to buy yourself a Valentine 1. It has already paid for itself several times over for me. You can drive your 5mph over the speed limit and not worry. It's worth it.

I drive very safely these days-- but I am definitely considering buying a V1 when I get my Z cuz the fuzz in Beantown is ALWAYS out - and they're hella sneaky...
behind trees, lights out, hidden everywhere--- AND, just when you think your passed the one trying to catch everybody.... there's another cop up ahead catching speeders too!! Tricky!!!
With a car as flashy as the Z is, it will prolly be worth it to have forwarning and andvance knowlegde of the men in blue!

I love it when people jump all over someone with a holier than though attitude about doing what's right...or, when you are 16, you should be doing this or that. He already said he wasn't referring to driving at high speeds. Where I live, going 5 over is not even keeping up with the flow of traffic. His question is very reasonable.
When I was 19, I had a 300zxtt. Over the course of the 1 1/2 years of owning that car, I got pulled over at least once a week. Of those countless times, only 2 were because I was going over 5 mph. Usually it was because I was "swerving", or "driving too slow" or some other made up excuse, just so they could give me a speech about how someone my age shouldn't be driving a car like mine, and search through my stuff. I was paranoid in that car.
I have only been pulled over approximately 3 times to date since then while driving my maxima. (Only 1 ticket-which was deserved)
You only have my word to go by, but I have always tried to be a very responsible driver. But when you are a young driver in a nice car, profiling is something you WILL have to deal with. Regardless of what law enforcement SHOULD do, they can pull you over for anything they want.
But there are things you can do to minimize this. So, to answer your question, I would go with white or silver. Both are nice colors on the z, but help you get less attention from the police than red, blue, or orange. A radar detector will be very helpfull in a lot of situations, if you know how to use it properly. Cops hate them, though. Nevertheless, I would consider getting one. They come in handy for 10mph over-and below driving habits. Of course, excessive speeding is just asking for it regardless of your age. All a radar detector will do then is beep to let you know your getting a ticket. Be safe.

Well I have to kinda disagree here. Most cops are still using true radar, whether it's Ka or X band or whatever. Those frequencies will be picked up way ahead of time with a V1. True, if a cop is using a laser detector, you're screwed no matter what. But in the 4 months or so that I've had mine in my Z, it's saved me from at least 5 or so sure tickets. Sounds pretty valuable to me!

Thanks for helping me decide. My Dad said this to me and I think he is right. No matter what I am gonna get pulled over a lot, it doesn't matter if I am doing anything or not. He said that if I am getting a 35k+ car I may as well get the color I want. I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to let them rain on my parade. Thanks for the advice. As someone said above, if I drive a look at me car they are gonna look at me, doesn't matter what color it is.
