1. Skip 90% of the winter
2. Get the exact car I want untouched
3. Have 3+ months of extra savings time for my down payment
4. Not 1 dealership had the color and options I wanted within a 50 mile radius.. A Daytona Blue Enthu with all options becides Head curtians.. Not planning to settle although I would take a Perf model with the same color/options
don't forget. #5. YOU CAN GET THE CAR WITHOUT THE FRONT PLATE DRILLED IN!!!

I have some similar dates, I went to me dealer (my family is partners in, so I know I don't get screwed)

Ordered Dec 7th (I missed it by a day or 2), order went in Jan 7th (I called today, and they didn't have the order # on hand, for cars with a Feb production date yet, but he said he will have it on Monday).

When I called and MADE SURE the car was ACTUALLY ordered and put into the system (I called on Jan 7th the day IT was DONE, so I can make sure it did get done), they said that they only had 3 Z avail to them and that they were surprised that they didn't have more. He said it DID get done, though and read my EXACT order to me over the phone that day.

Sounds like maybe your dealer wasnt able to order as many as they thought they would either, and someones had to get bumped.

Ya RodH that is what happened, I just got back from the dealership. They basically said there allocations were halfed for the month cuz of production reduction. They are trying to find and divert one for me and I will know on Monday, if they can't I'm back to square one and I will have to look for one in dealer stock somewhere.. I am very upset over this, I try to get something done ahead of time and it causes me aggravation..

I am very sorry to hear that, have them AGGRESSIVELY LOOK for one to trade for you!!

Thought situation sounds accurate (even though to you, it may sound like total BS, and still pisses you off). I can talk very frank with my dealer for the reasons I mentioned earlier and they were very surprised/dissipointed in the # of Z's allocated to them for Jan, esp since they have been doing a good job in moving them (while some dealers have tried to get 5K-10K over and can have 22-33 Zs on the lot at all times. Universal Nissan in LA is an example). My guess is that for some reason the production # for january is a little lower for the Z, accross the board (for whatever reason).

Search hard, I am sure you can find one, also, call the dealers, DON'T just go by what the inventory says on Nissans site. I drove by a dealer 2 days ago and they had 2 Z'S OUTSIDE (and maybe more inside) and I searched the Net to find thier inventory and it says they had ZERO!!, The next day, I say 2 on a truck headed over there as well. I would CALL around today and they CALL around on Tues or later Next week, after the newer incoming cars are PDI'd

GOOD LUCK!!

Default Allocation

Very few Z's were dolled out in the Dec/Jan order periods which translates into Jan/Feb production months.

Even if you "order" a car, if a dealer does not get any cars, your order will not be filled.

Sometimes...rarely....a car that is specified can not be built by Nissan for some reason, this info would be known only in the last 5-7 days of the order month...then a credit would be issued...but still, you would not get "your" car.

Contrary to some of your opinions, the dealer has no idea what allocation they will get, or if the items will actually be produced.

The allocations depends on Days supply of each model line, sales volume. etc.

It's easy to blame the dealer, thats what customers wnat to do, even if it is out of their hands.

I have been told that the Feb order period for March production will be opened up a little.

Well after talking to my dealership I gave up on them, got my deposit back and I found a Perf model 20 miles away that had the right color and everything i wanted except for the aero, It just came in 2 days ago and was being prepped... Now I guess since I am upgrading to a Perf model from a Enthu model not having the aero kit is no big deal, I wanted the wing on the Enthu cuz since I had the 17's it would need a bit more dress up.. So I signed all the paperwork and I am picking up on Monday.. My daytona blue Perf...

I really didn't want to have it this early in the winter, expecially during a long spell of near 0 weather and snow.. But hell, I don't wanna go thru aggravation again later on.. So i got it now..

Pics to come soon!!

Sorry to hear of your headaches, Beantown buddy. I had been checking around too-- I think I want almost the exact same car as you (no aero kit tho)-- did you get the Perf @ Ira? I was looking at that one-- I hope you got a good deal- I think that car has been there for a couple a weeks now-- I think I'm gonna wait for the fall--- next model year!
Clay (in Dedham) called me today to tell me they had a auto blue touring-- I said thanks for the call, but that's not the model for me!
Keep us posted to your adventure!

Why are you making such a big deal about the Aero Kit??? You can order it and have it added on anytime you want.

Don't feel bad.

You should have seen what I went through to get a Silverstone Track Model with Nav. and every available option!

That is the car I wanted, and was not willing to compromise.

I had to drive 2.5 hrs. to Austin to grab one that had come in the night before (exactly like I wanted).
I had to get there by 9 am, when the sales dept. opened to make sure no one got their first...they would take no deposites: First-come, first-served.

Once I got there, even though I was paying cash, I had to pay MSRP+TT&L. (If I wouldn't have bought it, there were 2 other people waiting to jump on it.)

It was 40k cash out the door (no trade, I collect sports cars).

Then I still had to drive 2.5 hours home!

But hey, I was the first kid on my block with the newest toy!
And still am!
The z-car seems very rare here in Houston/Kingwood; there are many more G35's.
I've yet to see another Z while driving my Z.

Ya the Z cars seem to be the hottest car out right now. I am just glad all the searching is over and I am gonna have it in my driveway on Monday, its sooner than I wanted it but the Z cars in the next few months will be getting harder and harder to find due to reduction. Than when they start back up in late spring the dear said they will probably be selling over MSRP again in most areas..

To answer Rissness's question on what I got:

Daytona Blue Performance Model 6MT - Carbon Black Interior Z
Build #8310
All options except for Aero Kit

Payed the full MSRP minus the head air bags list price (cuz I was not looking to have them and I annoyed them till they took that $600 off). And there not billing me until April for a payment. I got a 75,000 miles 6 year unlimited Nissan warrenty for $799!! And I got a 90 day "No ding, dent, scratch or chip" Garentee which I thought was cool.

And the car that I got just came off the truck 2 days ago, it was being prepped down the street in a warehouse/detail shop..

Well i'm not 100% sure.. I guess Nissan sent an email to all the Regions that the number of Z cars being delivered to each region will but close to Halfed for Feb, March, April Build months.. They cut back on the overall number of 2003's that were tp be produced and wanted to go back to normal production in May. My dealer was very truthful and he suspects this because the demand with be higher come warmer months and the Z's will sell for over MSRP yeilding a heathly profit for Nissan.. Thats why he thinks its happening and he was the GSM of Ira Nissan..

So as the Z's are sold in the next few months the lot stock wil be thinner and thinner until production gets back to normal, and customer ordering will probably be out of the question for most dealerships until May..

Daytona Blue Z,

Your car sounds awesome!
I havent't seen a DB with a dark interior yet.
I bet it looks great!

How many miles do you have now?

I couldn't wait for break-in so I could redline mine, but now that I can, I find I never need to.

You are gonna love it!

Make sure you get a cargo net.
Also make them give ya one of those cool "Z" license plates.

If you are getting NAV, be prepared to read small book on its use.
