Default How do I tell it's a "Track" Version?

I’m looking at getting a 350Z in the near future. From the research I’ve gathered from this form I’ve come to the conclusion the 05 would be the best model, the feathering issue has been resolved, the tranny is better. Ultimatly the 2005 Track version will be the best out of the entire lot, it has 300HP and 274 ft/lb of torque. The thing I can’t figure out is how do I tell a “Track” version from the other versions?

Although it's going to be hard to find a 2005 350Z track model!

The track version has bright gold brembo brakes and cloth seats. The 35th will also have the brakes but leather seats. Also, the 300hp motor doesn't have 274 tq. Have a nice day.

Thanks for the info, I'm glad it doesn't have leather. Does it have a navigation system ( I hope not). I can't stand all that useless stuff.

According to ww.carpoint.com the 2005 Track model has 300HP and 274 ft/tq. Is carpoint.com wrong?!

No sir, nav was only an option for the touring and 35th (GT) on 05+ models. Before 05 you could get nav with anything as long as you paid. Now it's wired into the Bose I believe. Check www.nissanusa.com for nissan stats, not carpoint.

If your buying used Id ask for the origional sticker from the car. If that's not available look for Brembos.

Before you knock the Touring, you should test drive it. I drove the Track and didn't like it so I got the Touring model.

Yep. If you spend $30K on a car, it better have leather. I think the $1500 diff between the track and 35th (GT) is well worth it. If you just want performance, get a base model and build it up. The track is $8K more than the base and for what????? A quasi-lsd, on-board nannies that take away from the driver, wind diffusers under the car that nobody actually knows does anything, and light wheels that aren't wide enough, and brakes that barely out perform the stock ones(only 12.6" I believe). That $8K will buy an aftermarket kick@ss LSD, Wilwood 14" BBK F&R, and a nice set of wheels and sticky rubber. I think the Track model is the worst value. At least the touring serves its purpose.

Oh I'm not knocking the touring option. For me Nav and leather seats are not a priority. If I had the money and Canada allowed it i'd ultimatly like to have a Lotus Elise / Exige.

The only reason I was looking at carpoint.com, because it allows you to look at older models. The manufacturer sites only display current year models.

Most obvious is that the '05 track will have the 6 spoke Rays forges wheels. Only the Track model came with those in '03-'05, unlike now in '06 where both the GT and Track come with the new 5 spoke Rays.

*edit* I see you are in Canada. Not sure on the rims up there...

Thanks for the info TK2005. I just checked the Nissan.ca website, according to the site, it's only an extra $2,700 CAD for the (they call it the) performance package over the base model for a 2006. You quoted $8K am I miss something?

MustGoFastR, according to the Nissan site, it comes with Rays forged alloy-wheels.

2700 is probably enthusiast over base. Then comes touring, track & Grand Touring. There is no performance model in 2006

Being in Canada, you may not have the same trim levels as us. Ours go Base - Enthusiast - Performance (no longer exists) - Touring - Track - 35th (GT). In USD, the track model is $8K more than base (new, used is diff story altogether). The performance model is useless as it an enthusiast with VDC which everyone turns off as soon as they get in their car anyhow and diff wheels which are no better than the wheels they replace. There is no performance trim in USA for 06. It was eliminated from the lineup. Check the nissan site for Canada or Europe to see what trim levels are available to you. I have always been one to preach that if performance is your main goal, go with the base model. Save all that money and put it into higher quality aftermarket parts. If I were going to buy a Z to build, it would be base. If I was going to buy one that I was never going to mod, I would get the GT.

The 300hp engine has 260lb/ft torque.
The 287hp engine has 274lb/ft torque.

A Track should have Brembo's, a rear spoiler, a front air diffuser (a small strip of plastic under the front bumper), and cloth seats.

Some Tracks have Nav but most do not. It's an option.

Brembos + cloth seats + spoiler and front diffuser = 99% a Track model.

I hate my Bose stereo, but love my nav. I have the 03 stereo too...which won't let me hardwire my Sirius or iPod to it.

I hear ya. I have the '03 Track with the nav (no Bose). I can't hook up my iPod and the iPod FM transmitters all suck. I'm thinking about replacing the stock stereo with something that has an audio in. It's not as cool as getting an iPod adapter (that would charge and let you control it from the stereo) but it's better than what I got.
