Default High-mileage Z owners... squeeky brakes?

A little squeal backing out in the morning? Fine. A little squeal in frigid (20s) temps? Fine. But squealing and dare I say grinding noises after a good run on a fairly warm day? WTF?

8000 miles and I'm starting to hear regular squeeking/squealing from the non-Brembo brakes. Of course it would be impossible to replicate this once I get to the dealer. Should I live with it or are other serious problems about to go full bloom? I have had new tires put on, but stood there in the bay to ensure that the lugs were properly torqued and not overtightened. I don't have any shimmy in the wheel under braking that would be indicative of warped rotors so I don't know what to look for next seeing as how a visible inspection shows plenty of pad left front and rear.

I have the tiny brake squeal you say is not a problem. Nothing major. I bet I end up getting the same outcome as you though. I always seem to be a few steps behind you on Z problems!

I have this as well, felt better when I heard your on Saturday.

9,800 miles

Clay suggested that I apply gentle presure to the breaks , just enough to make contact, and drive a very short distance at a very low rate of speed......and see if it continued.

I was in a hurry and couldn't drop the car off .....I'll address it when I return from Houston.

At this time, the Ferodo DS2500 is not available in the 350Z Touring fitment (or any 350Z fitment for that matter). I was able last year to pick up a few sets, which have since be sold out. However, I am brining in the Axxis Ultimate compound in your front fitment, which has very similar (arguably nearly identical) performance to the Ferodo DS2500, but with a somewhat higher dust level (dust is non-corrosive and will not harm the wheel finishes).

The Axxis Ultimate lists for $90.75, and my350Z.com members receive a 10% discount on this product.

Please let me know how I can be of further assistance to you.

Best Regards,

Andie Lin

Sir,

I'm interested in purchasing the FERODO DS2500 brake pads for my 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring (Non-Brembo).

I was referred by Cobalt at www.My350Z.com.

Do you have these pads in stock? If so, please email the My350Z discount price along with ordering information and payment methods. I would like to order/reserve these pads.

Thank You

Default I have a squeak.

But it is when I am pulling off, if I have the windows down, I hear it as I am coming off of the clutch. It kinda reminds me of Ford Expedition or Lincoln Navigator squeeak, but not as loud.. I have only about 6800 miles. I can maybe expect that from a Ford, but I hope that this is not to be expected from a Nissan, especially the 350Z. But I also have my 20s on the car, so please tell me that this is not the cause..

I have had a brake squeak for a long time. But have never been able to reliably reproduce it for the dealership. My Service Advisor has heard it, but they can't reproduce it regularly enough to diagnose it.

They did a few things (can't remember right now) to fix it, but to no avail.

Keep me posted on your outcome.

JD

PS

Why doesn't Portfield have an application for us yet?

There is tons of brake dust, but since every Z has it I doubt yours is excessive, just something to get used to I think.

I don't have squeaky brakes, but I've had a very slight (and short duration) grind three times since I got the car (7600 miles so far).

It seems to happen in parking lots, so I'm not really worried, but I'll keep you posted to see if it seems similar to your problems.

I think my first upgrade will be Stoptech brakes, so hopefully that will take care of both grind and dust problems.

Gotta wear out the stock brakes first though!
