Does it sound kind of like a cross between a howl and a whistle? I get this everytime I drive the highway in my 07. At first I thought there was something wrong but I guess it's normal. Ive gotten used to it.. however it does get pretty loud. Just turn on the radio and you wont even notice it. When you accelerate harder does it wind out for a bit then go away?

Yep, and its only at certain speeds. For some reason, I want to say this only happens when its cold out (by cold, I mean less than 40 degrees). I dont recall it happening during the summer months.

As long as there isnt anything wrong mechanically, I'm fine with it. Since it only seems to happen when its cold out and at 80 mph, its not a huge problem anways since I'll likely have the winter tires on which means I wont be driving on the interstates much.

I'm still just curious as to what the hell is causing it.

I have the same exact thing going on... sounds like the differential to me.

I don't think the cold really has much to do with it. I'm living in FL and it was pretty warm out yesterday(dont know the temp). I went out on the interstate yesterday to see and somewhere right between 80-85 it seems to do it. Just cruise at 79 or under or 86 and over haha.

Dont mean to hijack the thread. but in the same vein, do you guys get that vibrating hum from your exhaust/rear area of the car when you rev when the car is cold? it only happens for maybe 50 rpms around 2 1/2 grand for me, once the car warms up though it goes away. Once again, dont mean to hijack the thread.

Thumbs up

This 59-year-old-timer uses cruise control (avge. speed: 55MPH); no howling, whining, pinging, rattling, squeaking, screeching, squealing, whistling or what- ever noises there might be!!! Age has its benefits (wisdom, self-control, stealth, a savings-minded attitude...) You'll get there soon, IF you don't die young. DRIVE CAREFULLY, dudes!!!

Mine howls at any speed as soon as I let off the gas and start to coast. It sounds like it's coming from the rear. It's really annoying and it's all I hear, even with the music on.

EDIT: Mine's an 04.5 by the way...

?wheel bearing. I had that at about the same speed; it got progressively worse even at lower speeds; it was one of the wheel bearings.

'ITS THE MIRROR. I DITCHED MY STOCK MIRRORS FOR DUAL BAR CF MIRRORS AND ITS NOW SILENT. IT'S GREAT.

IM IN PALM BEACH GARDENS SO IT DOES NOT GET COLD HERE EVER.

I BYPASSED THE COOLANT FROM GOING INTO THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND THAT MADE A BIG DIFF FOR ME. I COULD FEEL IT.

MY INTAKE MANIFOLD NOW RUNS 60 DEGREES COOLER.

SLAPPED IN A NEW ECU , PROGRAMABLE.

ADDED A SECRET WEAPON INTAKE /W MICROFIBER FILTERS. NOT FOAM.

WTF? You can make mods to your car, but can't work the Caps Lock button? Gimme a break.

I posted to a similar thread...dont' know where..but yeah I seemed to have the same issue. right at 80, there was this very subtle sound that seemed to come only if I pressed on the throttle. Sounds more like a slight whine from an air intake. So its not the wind...it definetly sounds mechanical since it only occurs if the throttle is pressed.

I haven't noticed it as of late though...so not sure what was up? Gear? Intake? Tranny? Engine? Tires? el chupacabra perhaps?
