I was wondering how the Altima SE-R compares to the 350z, i hve heard just the regular altima was fast already but having Nissan put out an SE-R of this car really makes me think how fast is this car actually. Sorry if this was a repost. Lets hear your guys input on the ALTIMA SE-R.

I have a suggestion. Whenever you are interested in comparing straight line acceleration of the 350Z and another car, just divide the curb weight by torque. It isn't a perfect answer, but pretty close.

What kind of numbers do you come up with?

 

smart a$s.... haha but i still did it....crazy how it works for a stock Z but mine... 400tq... and 3300 or so... wow i wish i could run a low 8...!

 

i thought about looking at the se-r but i had a honda accord before the Z and i regreted getting a sedan, and i snapped out of it and got the Z

Bad vid. The guy driving z is launching like a 4-year-old and doesn't know how to shift. Classic example of bad driver + better car < better driver + slower car.

 

Driver dependant. SE'R's are underrated. When i test drove it, it felt no different than the Z. It lost steam after 60mph while the Z pulls till about 110 before it slowwwwsss dowwwnnn

 

My brother has an Altima SE-R...

We haven't raced but I've driven it a handful of times and for a FWD sedan, it can really pull. I launched it from a stop light and was pretty impressed with the power/torque.

It came stock with SO-3's which suprized me since we get the crappy Potenzas.

I also liked the SE-R breaks.... Low dust and excellent bite and stopping power. Another thing we don't get unless you get the Track Brembos.

He recently added a Stillen intake which added much needed growl under the hood and to the exhaust note. He said his butt dyno feels a difference but you know how that goes.

Overall, it's a solid sport sedan. It's very comfortable and the body kit gives it an aggressive/sporty look compared to the stock model or SE. If someone wanted a cheaper alternative to a G35 Sedan or wanted to try something other that an Accord or a Camry, I would highly recommed the Altima SE-R.

I wish I could give you all a better review however 4 of the 5 times I did drive it I also had my 6 yr old nephew in the back seat so I never really had a chance too mash it hard....Although he was yelling "Let's go FASTER!"

 

Per Nissan's website www.nissanusa.com , the hp for a stock SE-R is 260 @ 6000rpm, torque 251 lb/ft @ 3600rpm, less hp and peak torque, but it seems more available torque at lower rpm's (stock Z's peak torque comes in at around 4800rpm).

Weight for an Altima is 3279 lbs (manual) and 3316 lbs (auto) [ lighter than I thought, actually], so weight advantage will depend on the year/make of that particular Z (stock). Mine's listed at 3299 lbs.

Those numbers are close enough for me to say that it could boil down to the driver, but if you're going to wait 8 seconds before you launch (like that guy in the video) and then shift like you're sedated, even a Winnebago will smoke you.

 

If all you're looking for is straightline acceleration, you just might be satisfied with the Altima SE-R.

After driving one, however, I couldn't deal with the amount of body roll. The Z is tighter, more solid on the sharp turns.

 

The Z is quite heavy. A 4 door sedan with a backseat weighs less than the Z in some cases? Omph..

 

for straight line acceleration its a drivers race. however the SE-R is actually kinda overpriced for what you get. you could buy a G35 sed for a bit more.

 

I raced one before. I was ahead the entire time. I was ahead half a car length initially, but I started to pull on it slowly. I was surprised that the Altima SE-R was hanging for a little bit at the beginning.

 

i raced a se-r from a 40mph roll, had about 2 cars on it by 80. From a stop it wouldnt be much of a race.

 

you guys will be surprised at what those fwd cars with the 3.5s can do. Got a local maxima.org guy here with full exhausts and just ghetto intake made by pepboy parts runnin low 13's all day at the track on street tires

 

How does the Z weigh more than an altima

 

That's something I'd love to ask the Nissan Z design crew (and they're only HEAVIER for '06...). If the Z were only 200-300 pounds lighter...

 

The only 0-60 time for an Altima I was able to Google was 6.3. Close enough that the driver could make the difference. Hell, once upon a time I almost lost to an Escort in my hopped up '71 mustang. Road wet, broke the tires loose, he was four car lengths ahead before I even got going. Luckily this was long before everyone had a video camera in their car.

 

stability. remeber, the weight is focused on the bottom of the car, which is a good thing.
